Background / History

Annie entered Vought’s superhero selection process hoping to join The Seven, but was eliminated despite being told she had a strong chance of reaching the finals. Vought later recruited her separately as Starlight. 18

Initially a reserve member, Starlight was ordered by Edgar to make her public debut during Tin Man’s Federal Reserve Bank robbery. Although she objected to the revealing costume Vought required her to wear, Edgar made continued superhero work conditional on compliance. Her opening light blast sent Tin Man through several police cars, but he later struck her down in the same encounter. 67 68

During the Manhattan hostage crisis, Starlight voluntarily remained inside the Empire State Building to calm and protect hostages. She coordinated with Maeve, created a blinding diversion that affected Jeff through his remotely linked armor, repelled the Titan armor with a light blast, and directed civilians to the fire escape. 78 80 81

Her faith in Homelander deteriorated after witnessing the Manhattan incident and hearing him admit that he killed people because they had ordered him around. Stormfront exploited Starlight’s doubts by revealing the existence of Compound 5 and encouraging her to expose Vought. 134 136 137

While acting as a guide at a Vought facility, Starlight sabotaged the laboratory lights and stole several vials of Compound 5 for Stormfront. Stormfront later exposed her before The Seven; Starlight confessed, acknowledged that she had acted without sufficient evidence, and was spared after Maeve intervened. 147 151 152

Starlight later became captain of the newly recruited Seven Reserve Team. She also worked alongside Princess Frost and Delta Force during the operation against Starfire, receiving media attention after Bloody Mary’s capture. 186 167

During the Midnight Boil incident, she witnessed Supersonic and other teammates die. The trauma led her to take extended leave at home, where she questioned whether she was suited to be a superhero. She ultimately returned to the fight, resolving that she could at least “light a beam of light in the darkness.” 335 338

Appearance

Starlight is a young woman with wavy golden-blond hair, bright eyes, and a distinctive white-and-yellow star-themed superhero image. 18 67

  • Her original costume is white and yellow with star patterns and a cape. 374
  • Vought later issued her a low-cut, high-slit battle suit with knee-high boots, which she repeatedly found humiliating and overly revealing. 67 134 136
  • She uses casual clothing, including a hooded jacket, jeans, and a schoolbag, when trying not to be recognized. 136
  • Her eyes visibly glow when she gathers or uses her light-based powers. 67 78 189

Personality

Starlight is idealistic, compassionate, and strongly committed to protecting civilians. She stayed behind with hostages during the Manhattan crisis despite recognizing that she had limited ability to fight the armor force. 78 When Maeve proposed sacrificing the hostages’ safety to extract Arnold, Starlight refused, insisting that she had promised to protect them. 80

She resents being marketed as a sexualized celebrity rather than allowed to do meaningful hero work. Public advertisements, media appearances, scripted lines, and Vought’s costume requirements leave her feeling that she is forgetting what it means to be a superhero. 63 134 136

Her idealism also leaves her vulnerable to manipulation. Stormfront persuaded her to steal Compound 5 by appealing to her fear of Homelander and desire to expose wrongdoing. Starlight later admitted that she had judged Homelander without adequate evidence. 136 147 152

Despite fear, trauma, and self-doubt, she repeatedly returns to protect others—including volunteering to risk herself to save Supersonic from Zero. 187 189 346
