Background / History

Azu awakens after transmigrating into the body of John, better known as Homelander. Discovering that his powers increase through proficiency, he immediately begins testing his abilities and pursuing upgrades rather than accepting Homelander’s original limits 1 4.

He rejects the national symbolism attached to Homelander’s image, burns the Stars and Stripes cape, and orders a replacement suit designed to represent himself alone 17. As leader of The Seven, he seeks fighters with genuine combat experience, replaces or sidelines people he considers useless, and cultivates loyal assets such as Angelina Caiton 12 13 19.

Azu gradually seizes control of Vought, works with the Department of Defense when advantageous, and expands his influence through intelligence networks, coercion, and direct displays of power 60 123 148. His multiversal travel later grants him advanced technology, divine artifacts, and powers from several worlds 105 134 144.

After gaining the Authority of Destruction, Azu becomes a Level 7 deity. He begins building an empire founded on conquest, rewarding those who fight and conquer in his name while punishing cowardice 389 406 412.

Appearance

Azu inhabits Homelander’s blond, blue-eyed body and is initially associated with a blue battle suit, red gloves and boots, and a Stars and Stripes cape 1.

  • Later abandons the star-spangled costume and adopts a darker outfit with a red cape 17 294.
  • Uses disguises for covert work, including dyed brown hair, glasses, casual clothing, and the alias “Kenji” 65 197.
  • Commonly equips a Vibranium Suit, the Cape of Justice, and the Bracers of Hercules for major battles 134 280.
  • Can alter his appearance through Shapeshifting 446.

Personality

Azu is fiercely independent and refuses to be treated as a national mascot, corporate asset, or subordinate. He values power, control, personal growth, and the freedom to act according to his own will 17 60 294.

He is calculating in combat and politics alike. Rather than always confronting threats immediately, he often observes competing factions, lets them exhaust one another, and intervenes when the outcome benefits him 57 79 452. He is also willing to blackmail, manipulate, or kill people who oppose, threaten, or inconvenience him 147 517 539.

Despite this ruthlessness, Azu can be protective toward people he values. He ensures Lin Aida’s safety, supports Angelina’s development, protects Hellen during Atlantis’s attack, and takes responsibility for Ryan after finding him in the quarantine zone 89 229 294.
