Professor Armitage
Agility: 2.15, Constitution: 1.42, Vision: 4.11, Mana: 1.30
The old man had completely white hair and beard, wore a pair of black round-framed glasses, and his black formal suit was old-fashioned but impeccably tailored, with a red bow tie tied around his neck.
He was probably only 1.7 meters tall, much shorter than Hope and Dr. Morgan, but the two of them stood obediently by the wall, heads down, not daring to look at the old man.
Neither Hope nor Dr. Morgan were students, but they were now like the most obedient students, waiting for the old man to lecture them.
The old man arrived unexpectedly.
At that moment, Dr. Morgan was talking to Hope about Elizabeth.
Hope said she couldn't really remember how they met, only that Elizabeth had a gun pointed at her.
Dr. Morgan said it was truly a wonderful coincidence.
Just as he was about to say a few more words, the door to the Cultist Skull Museum suddenly opened.
Hope couldn't adjust to the sudden change in light, so she only saw someone come in, but couldn't make out who it was.
But when he heard Dr. Morgan immediately shut up, he shut up too.
When Hope regained his sight, he saw the old man standing in front of them, his gaze carrying a hint of reproach.
It's like an elder looking at a younger person who has done something wrong. It doesn't make people feel disgusted, but rather makes them feel a little guilty. It reminded Hope of his junior high school homeroom teacher.
Dr. Morgan immediately stood against the wall without saying a word, Hope, understanding the situation, stood beside Dr. Morgan.
Even without Dr. Morgan's introduction, Hope could guess who the old man was.
Professor Armitage.
Phillips Library and the biggest contributor to the Cultist Skull Museum.
Just by looking at his attributes, you can tell how strong he is. Apart from Old Whateley, whose true form has never been seen, this is the first time Hope has seen a number above "4" in the attribute column.
However, eyesight...
A clairvoyant?
If that's the case, then round-framed glasses are more than just a decoration.
The three of them remained silent for a long while.
Before Professor Armitage spoke, Hope remained completely still, without making a single fidgety move. He didn't even dare to entertain the idea of using "Uncertainty" to escape.
His 4.11 vision put him under immense pressure; the highest number he had ever seen before was Wilbur's 3.01 mana.
Mana is a straightforward concept; a higher mana value simply means a higher mana level.
But eyesight is another story; who knows what a person with 4.11 vision can achieve?
Moreover, even disregarding eyesight, Professor Armitage's agility of 2.15 is higher than that of the Great Night Hawk, and coupled with his mana of 1.30... aside from his constitution, which is around 1.5 like a normal person, his other stats are monstrous.
Professor Armitage paused finally in front of Dr. Morgan. His voice, though gentle for an elderly man, was not weak. "Please introduce this gentleman to me."
Hope knew that "this gentleman" was referring to him.
"This is my friend, Hope Love, from Dunwich."
"Just call me Love," Hope quickly added. Here, he didn't want people to call him "Hope," but he had forgotten the specific reason.
"Yes, Mr. Love." Professor Armitage nodded.
While speaking to Hope, he looked at Hope politely, but after he finished speaking, he kept staring at Dr. Morgan.
Hope and Dr. Morgan were standing very close, so Hope could hear Dr. Morgan's uneasy breathing.
He looked down and saw that Dr. Morgan was so nervous that he was clutching the hem of his clothes.
Dr. Morgan a fanatical admirer of Professor Armitage... Is he now feeling ashamed because his idol caught him doing something wrong?
"Now, Dr. Morgan," Professor Armitage said softly, "Can you explain to me why Mr. Love is here?"
Dr. Morgan grew even more uneasy. He tilted his head back and said, "I practically dragged him here. The school's management has been lax lately, so I wanted to bring Love here for a visit."
Professor Armitage looked at Hope: "Is that so, Mr. Love?"
"Yes," Hope replied.
Professor Armitage nodded, showing no sign of anger whatsoever.
"There must not be a second time," he told Dr. Morgan.
"I swear," Dr. Morgan said.
Professor Armitage said nothing more. He turned and walked back, making a final gesture to the two men.
Hope didn't see it clearly.
"He told us to follow," Dr. Morgan said in a low voice.
"It must be quite a walk from Dunwich to here, right?" Professor Armitage asked Hope.
Hope felt a little guilty, because he had been teleported directly using "Uncertainty," so he didn't know how far away it was.
"Uh..." He thought for a moment, then gave a vague answer, "It's alright."
Where do you still live now?
"Yes."
How is Mr. Sawyer?
Mr. Sawyer?
Hope recalled the angry old man, "Yes, he could argue with people. You knew him?"
"He liked to argue with people when he was young," Professor Armitage said.
"We met a few times many years ago, and he helped me a lot back then, but I've never been to Dunwich since, and he's never been to Arkham either."
Professor Armitage no longer mentions Mr. Sawyer.
Hope understood why he suddenly brought up someone he hadn't seen in years. When two strangers are talking, the distance between them is greatly reduced if there are one or two acquaintances they both know.
Given Professor Armitage's and Hope's respective positions, Professor Armitage, as a university professor, obviously had no need to curry favor with Hope; he most likely said that to ease Hope's tension.
"I don't quite understand how you young people view hair," Professor Armitage continued.
"But when I was younger, my hair should have been cut shorter and combed neatly. Of course, hairstyle is your choice, but you should at least shave your beard."
Hope touched his hair, which almost covered his eyes, and with his half-finger-long beard, half of his face was obscured.
Professor Armitage probably asked that question because he had changed his clothes and no longer looked like a homeless person.
They unknowingly walked back downstairs and entered another room.
Hope guessed this was probably the curator's office or something similar, with open or closed books on the table and chairs.
"Sorry, I was looking up some information and haven't had time to tidy up yet," Professor Armitage said, opening his drawer and pulling out two forms to hand to Hope.
"Mr. Love, please fill this out. This is a temporary library card; you can borrow books from it later. I think Dr. Morgan is willing to be your guarantor, is that right?"
Dr. Morgan nodded.
Hope felt she didn't really need the library card, but she didn't refuse.
"Can I just write ' Love ' for my name?" Hope asked.
"Regular library cards won't work, but temporary library cards aren't as formal. You can write any name you like if you wish, anything is fine," Professor Armitage said.
After Hope finished writing, Professor Armitage looked at Dr. Morgan again:
"Doctor, do you and Mr. Love have any plans for today? If not, Mr. Love can go back now; I have something for you to do."
