Background / History

After becoming a Hunter, Kurapika did not immediately pursue direct revenge against the Phantom Troupe. His priority was recovering his clansmen's Scarlet Eyes, which required money, underworld connections, and access to underground auctions where the eyes could be sold. 264

Izunavi initially taught him Nen and explained Vows and Restrictions. Kurapika's rapid progress was driven by his fixation on confronting the Phantom Troupe and reclaiming the Scarlet Eyes. 264 266

Lu Qi later approached Kurapika, recognized his potential, and offered to teach him Divine Script. Though wary of an unknown benefactor, Kurapika accepted the training and came to regard Lu Qi as his master. Under this tutelage, he studied Divine Script alongside Nen, refined his chain combat, and gained a clearer understanding of Emperor Time's cost. 264 266 267

Kurapika joined the Nostrade Family after demonstrating his healing ability to Light Nostrade. He was elevated to vice-captain of the bodyguard team, giving him greater access to the underworld networks and auction information needed to locate the Scarlet Eyes. 289

Kurapika is analytical, cautious, and exceptionally quick to learn. He remained suspicious of Lu Qi despite the opportunity to gain power, interpreted Neon's prophecy poems to anticipate instability in Yorknew City, and used intelligence from Hisoka and his friends to assess the Phantom Troupe's threat. 264 290 298

His pursuit of revenge is intense, but it does not erase his compassion. He protected injured Nostrade bodyguards during the first auction attack, chose not to exploit Melody's mass-disorientation of the Troupe, and hesitated when faced with killing the helpless Uvogin. 294 295 331
