Background

During the upheaval of the Mountain and Sea Realm, Bajie was swept into a world formed by the Demon-Subduing Pagoda. Though injured and suppressed, he was in better condition than Tang Luo had been. He recuperated, searched unsuccessfully for people and traces from the past, then withdrew to Cloudy Stack Cave to sleep and heal. 436

Before entering seclusion, Bajie split the Nine-Toothed Rake into nine holy weapons. Since the rake had been forged by Supreme Lord Lao and could resist the world's suppression, its fragments made their wielders effectively invincible within that world. He instructed his disciples to reunite the weapons and seek him out should an unresolvable “filth of the mortal world” arise. 436

The nine weapons were eventually reforged into the original Nine-Toothed Rake, which led Tang Luo and Ao Yulie to Cloudy Stack Cave. Bajie initially emerged in the guise of a handsome white-clad wanderer before his excitement caused him to revert into his broad, potbellied general-like form. 436

After being brought to the real world through the Cursed House, Bajie became an official member of Tang Luo's team through a team contract. He and Ao Yulie gained access to Skill Gifting, allowing abilities to be transferred between teammates. 437

Appearance

Bajie normally resembles a tall, somewhat plump but imposing man, nearly half a head taller than Tang Luo. His features are broadly handsome aside from his conspicuous upturned nose and prominent ears. 439

Bajie is lazy by his own admission and is happy to sleep, eat, or let others handle trouble when possible. He once deliberately severed his own cultivation to cut his losses during the Realm's upheaval, leaving him comparatively better off than many surviving acquaintances. 655

Under the relaxed demeanor is a cautious and capable planner. After recovering his memories in the false world of the End Society, he spent over ten years investigating in secret rather than provoking the Heavenly Soldiers and being swallowed by the black tide. 452

He is fiercely loyal to Tang Luo, readily carries out difficult orders, and is particularly serious when the safety of his master or fellow disciples is involved.
