Ao Yulie is a true dragon who once completed the pilgrimage and was strengthened in the Dragon Transformation Pool, reaching the Heavenly Immortal realm—equivalent to a Buddhist Arhat. Despite this, he could not defeat Sha Wujing and had not yet recovered his former strength. He attributes his slower recovery partly to having cut down his own cultivation in the past, though he maintains that the choice was correct. 361 878

He serves Tang Luo as the “Little White Dragon,” combining the roles of disciple, flying mount, and frontline fighter. Tang Luo can summon him through a secret technique when they are within range, while Ao Yulie often cultivates alone in the sea or high in the sky to avoid detection in the real world. 311
