Chapter 54: Challenge Letter

After Bai Ze arrived, Taiyi remained in his cave abode for a full forty-nine days.

During those forty-nine days, he did not rush out. He simply consolidated his cultivation, familiarized himself with the realm of a half-step Quasi-Saint, and incidentally studied each of the treasures he had recently acquired—the Sea-Calming Pearl, Tribulation-Destiny Charred Wood, and the imitation Li Di Yan Guang Qi.

The Sea-Calming Pearl was icy to the touch, with water-element spiritual essence circulating endlessly within it. Taiyi could now perceive more clearly the faint karmic connections among the twenty-four pearls. Tribulation-Destiny Charred Wood still looked lifeless, but from time to time it gave off an extremely faint ripple, as though responding to something. The imitation Li Di Yan Guang Qi was rather docile. As its flames flowed, it could throw the surrounding Five Elements energy into disorder. Though it was only an imitation, it might prove highly useful in certain situations.

Once the forty-nine days were up, Taiyi ended his cultivation and rose.

He pushed open the door to his cave abode, and the light outside was somewhat dazzling. The Sun Star was as it had always been—scorching and brilliant—but for some reason, he felt that something else had mixed into that sunlight: a faint yet oppressive sense of suppression.

He had barely taken a few steps outside when he ran into Di Jun, who was hurrying over.

Di Jun did not look well. His brows were tightly furrowed, and his eyes held barely restrained fury, along with... a trace of solemnity.

"Brother?" Taiyi stopped. "What happened?"

Di Jun looked at him, drew a deep breath, then said in a low voice, "Second Brother, you came out of seclusion at just the right time. The Witch Race... has issued a challenge letter."
