Before the Star Dou Great Forest Beast Tide Rank 79 Soul Sage Ning Fengzhi was a rank-79 auxiliary-type Soul Sage who depended on Sword Douluo Chen Xin and Poison Douluo Dugu Bo for direct protection 275.
During captivity under the Holy Spirit Cult Martial Soul corruption While chained and tortured, Ning Fengzhi's Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda began undergoing a forced, blood-red corruption or alteration; the result had not yet been revealed 292.

Background / History

Ning Fengzhi was introduced as the teenage heir apparent of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect: handsome, elegantly mannered, and dressed in immaculate finery. At the time, his father Ning Zhen was sect master, while Ning Fengzhi was regarded as the sect’s future leader 8.

As a youth, Fengzhi strongly supported the sect’s effort to obtain the Twin Martial Soul genius offered through Martial Soul Hall. He believed the sect’s wealth could resolve any resource-related obstacle and requested to accompany Ning Zhen to Martial Soul City to see the genius himself 9. After the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect won custody of Bibi Dong, he initially regarded her as both a valuable sect asset and a potential future wife 9 14 21.

During Ning Zhen’s secret agreement with Emperor Xue Ye, Fengzhi initially questioned why the sect would surrender carefully cultivated geniuses to the imperial family. His father’s explanation—that the pact could be exploited to build a Ning-controlled power base and eventually challenge Heaven Dou’s throne—awakened Fengzhi’s own ambition 12 13.

He later succeeded Ning Zhen as sect master after a period of severe internal and external instability, including the deaths of Sect-Protecting Douluo Yuan Lie and Ning Zhen 77. By this period, he had Bibi Dong under the sect’s control, publicly presenting himself as her devoted husband while privately treating her as an asset for producing talented heirs and advancing his political plans 88 111. Although Fengzhi initially held genuine, possessive affection for Bibi Dong, he increasingly prioritized her bloodline, combat potential, and utility to the sect over her autonomy 91 213.

His long-running schemes ultimately collapsed after the Star Dou Great Forest Beast Tide. Having lost Dugu Bo, much of the sect treasury, and its political standing, Fengzhi was attacked by the Holy Spirit Cult, defeated, and captured by Bibi Dong 275 282 283 284. Publicly, the sect announced that he had resigned and entered closed-door cultivation to atone for his failures; in reality, Bibi Dong kept him imprisoned and subjected him to torture 288 292.

Appearance

Ning Fengzhi maintains the appearance of a refined and scholarly nobleman, though this polished image often conceals his calculations.

  • Handsome features and a gentle, elegant temperament in his youth 8.
  • Usually wears luxurious or immaculate sect-master robes 8 197.
  • Frequently adopts a warm, scholarly smile during negotiations, even when acting with hostility 150 188.
  • His composed appearance can give way to a gloomy or cold expression when his interests are challenged 139 140.
  • During the conflict in Heaven Dou City, he was left scorched and badly burned by the Golden Sacred Dragon’s attack, with his expensive robes reduced to ash-stained tatters 230.
  • After the Holy Spirit Cult’s assault, he was bloodied, had a broken right arm, and was forced to kneel beneath Bibi Dong’s soul power 283.
  • While imprisoned, he became a shackled and severely tortured captive whose bloodshot eyes reflected his deteriorating mental state 292.

Personality

Ning Fengzhi is ambitious, calculating, and strongly profit-driven. He treats political obligations, sect resources, alliances, and even family members as components of long-term schemes. His original response to Xue Ye’s thirty-year pact was not open defiance, but an attempt to fulfill it in a way that could place a Ning heir near Heaven Dou’s throne 139 140 144.

He is adept at maintaining a benevolent public persona. In Soul Hunting Town, he distributed relief supplies, blamed another sect for a beast tide, and recruited rogue soul masters while improving the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect’s public standing 197. He also speaks respectfully to valuable allies such as Dugu Bo and personally welcomed him into the sect after his breakthrough 188.

Behind this façade, Fengzhi is vindictive and controlling. He imprisoned Yu Xiaogang after the latter’s failed assassination attempt, had his right arm severed, and refused to release him until Qian Xunji personally intervened 119 120. He also kept Bibi Dong captive because he feared her power and potential defection, repeatedly using threats and coercion to retain control over her 173 213.

Fengzhi is willing to sacrifice subordinates when the sect’s survival or a sufficiently valuable reward is at stake. When the enraged forest kings demanded a life to answer for Xiao Wu’s death, he attempted to placate them by offering Dugu Bo’s life rather than his own or Chen Xin’s 275. Even after the Beast Tide destroyed his reputation, he pragmatically swallowed his pride, paid heavily for Martial Soul Hall’s assistance, and focused on preserving the sect 278 280.

His greatest weakness is his belief that he can turn every relationship into a manageable transaction. His manipulation of Bibi Dong and preferential treatment of Ning Chengjiu alienated both Bibi Dong and Ning Rongrong, helping create the conditions for his eventual overthrow 213 220 282.

Abilities & Skills

Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda

Ning Fengzhi possesses the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda, an auxiliary-type martial soul. He is identified as the world’s greatest support-system soul master, though his martial soul provides no direct offensive power 150 163.

  • Enhances allies through the pagoda’s support abilities, including Power, Speed, and Soul 150.
  • Can use the pagoda’s glazed light for healing, such as stabilizing Chen Xin after Daming’s attack 196.
  • Can employ Seven Treasure True Body to grant several simultaneous enhancements to an ally, significantly increasing Dugu Bo’s combat capabilities 229.
  • Relies on powerful protectors in direct combat due to his lack of offensive ability 130.
  • Was confirmed to be a rank-79 Soul Sage during the Star Dou Great Forest crisis 275.
  • While imprisoned by the Holy Spirit Cult, his pagoda began showing black-red, bloodlike corruption within its seven-colored radiance 292.

Political Strategy and Resource Management

As sect master, Fengzhi manages the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect’s wealth, personnel, external alliances, and covert operations.

  • Exploited the Heaven Dou royal family’s thirty-year pact to plan the placement of Ning Chengjiu within the imperial court 139 140 144.
  • Recruited Dugu Bo by providing herbs, resources, and access to Ye Tianxin’s treatment for the Jade Phosphorous Serpent’s toxic backlash 175 188.
  • Used public aid and recruitment in Soul Hunting Town to expand the sect’s influence 197.
  • Manipulated Daming with a fabricated account of Tang Hao’s actions, obtaining a scale capable of summoning the soul beast 196.
  • Attempted to seize Tang San’s hidden weapons for the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect while concealing that motive from the Heaven Dou imperial family 234.
  • Tried to salvage the sect’s standing after the Beast Tide by purchasing Martial Soul Hall’s intervention and accepting the political cost of presenting Dugu Bo as the primary culprit 278 279 280.

Equipment / Items

  • Storage soul tool — used to keep intelligence provided by Qian Xunji 145.
  • Daming’s scale — a scale given by Daming that can be used to summon him 196.
  • Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Bone — a soul bone acquired during the Star Dou Great Forest operation and temporarily held by Ning Chengjiu; it was lost after Qian Xunji demanded it from the Ning family 276 280.

Relationships

  • Ning Zhen — Father and former sect master. Ning Fengzhi initially questioned Ning Zhen’s deal with Emperor Xue Ye, then came to share his vision of a Ning-controlled Heaven Dou Empire 12 13.
  • Bibi Dong — Former captive wife and mother of Ning Rongrong and Ning Chengjiu. Fengzhi publicly called her his wife while exploiting her talent and children for sect power. After escaping and joining the Holy Spirit Cult, Bibi Dong led the attack that deposed him, poisoned him, and kept him imprisoned 111 140 173 282 284.
  • Ning Rongrong — Eldest daughter and successor as sect master. Fengzhi imposed harsh cultivation on her and prioritized her Death Spider Emperor cultivation as a means to overcome the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda’s limitations, but later shifted his resources and affection toward Chengjiu. Resentful of this favoritism, Rongrong joined Bibi Dong and the Holy Spirit Cult before replacing Fengzhi as sect master 213 220 282 288.
  • Ning Chengjiu — Youngest son and designated political heir. Fengzhi intended to send him to the Heaven Dou court and support his path toward the throne, later allowing him to attend Shrek Academy to gain experience. Fengzhi continued to view Chengjiu as the sect’s most important successor and feared for his safety during the Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast conflict 144 242 243 264.
  • Chen Xin — Sword Douluo and sect protector. Fengzhi relied on Chen Xin as his principal defender and confidant, while Chen Xin was deeply concerned for Fengzhi’s safety and Chengjiu’s future. Chen Xin defended him during the Holy Spirit Cult’s attack but later lost his right arm to Yu Yuanzhen 175 227 242 282 286.
  • Gu Rong — Bone Douluo and former sect protector. Fengzhi entrusted him with dangerous missions, including the attempt to seize A-Zhu and Tang Hao’s child 148 151.
  • Dugu Bo — Former guest elder and Titled Douluo of the sect. Fengzhi helped suppress Dugu Bo’s poison backlash, securing his loyalty and recruitment, but later attempted to offer Dugu Bo’s life to the forest kings in order to save himself and the sect. Dugu Bo subsequently died during the Beast Tide crisis 175 188 275 279.
  • Emperor Xue Ye — Political counterpart and creditor. Xue Ye invoked Ning Zhen’s thirty-year pact to demand a peerless genius; Fengzhi delayed his response while planning to use Chengjiu to infiltrate the imperial family 139 140 144.
  • Qian Xunji — Pope of Martial Soul Hall. Fengzhi treated him with outward respect but remained wary of his power and manipulation; Qian Xunji repeatedly forced Fengzhi onto the defensive. After the Beast Tide, Fengzhi was compelled to pay heavily for Qian Xunji’s public assistance and lost Chengjiu’s Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Bone 120 145 166 278 280.
  • Yu Xiaogang — Enemy and Bibi Dong’s former beloved. Fengzhi imprisoned and mutilated him following his assassination attempt, and later ordered Dugu Bo to capture him alive. Xiaogang’s hatred of Fengzhi became a major motive behind his alliance with Tang Hao 120 214 228.
  • Tang Hao — Enemy and leader of the Holy Spirit Cult. Fengzhi’s pursuit of A-Zhu and Tang Hao’s child created an irreconcilable grudge; Tang Hao later led the assault on the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect to avenge A-Zhu 148 151 282.
  • Yu Yuanzhen — Rival sect master and enemy. Yu Yuanzhen repeatedly opposed Fengzhi, exploited the Holy Spirit Cult’s attack to loot the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect’s treasury, and crippled Chen Xin after the battle 151 283 286.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Heir to the Sect

As Ning Zhen’s son, Fengzhi learns of the sect’s covert ambition to exploit Bibi Dong’s Twin Martial Souls and eventually supplant the Heaven Dou imperial family 12 13.

He supports the effort to purchase Bibi Dong’s guardianship from Martial Soul Hall, recognizing that the sect’s wealth could secure a peerless genius and future protector 9 14.

Control of Bibi Dong and the Heaven Dou Pact

After becoming sect master, Fengzhi uses Bibi Dong’s status and bloodline to produce heirs. When Xue Ye presses the old thirty-year agreement, Fengzhi plans to use a child born to Bibi Dong as the “genius” promised to the imperial family, with the ultimate goal of replacing the imperial bloodline with his own 139 140 144.

Fengzhi later names his son Ning Chengjiu in the hope that he will achieve the Nine Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda. Chengjiu’s awakening of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda, Soul-Eater Spider Emperor, and Innate Full Soul Power convinces Fengzhi that his political and sectarian ambitions can be fulfilled 143 213.

Conflict with Yu Xiaogang and Qian Xunji

Yu Xiaogang’s failed attempt on Fengzhi’s life leads to his imprisonment in the sect dungeon. Fengzhi tries to conceal the matter from Qian Xunji but is overwhelmed by the Pope’s level-99 pressure and compelled to reveal Xiaogang’s location 119 120.

The abuse inflicted upon Yu Xiaogang and Bibi Dong strengthens the enmity of Yu Xiaogang, Yu Yuanzhen, and eventually Tang Hao toward the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect 129 214.

Hunt for A-Zhu and Tang San

Fengzhi mobilizes Chen Xin, Gu Rong, and Bibi Dong to hunt A-Zhu, a hundred-thousand-year Man Faced Demon Spider Emperor in human form. He intends to seize both her soul ring and bone, kill Tang Hao, and abduct their newborn child for the sect 148 149 150.

The plan is disrupted by Yu Yuanzhen. Fengzhi later secures A-Zhu’s hundred-thousand-year spirit ring for Bibi Dong, but loses the soul bone to Yu Yuanzhen and becomes entangled in conflict with the Clear Sky Sect 151 166.

Expansion of Sect Strength

Following Gu Rong’s loss, Fengzhi seeks a replacement high-level combatant by helping Dugu Bo overcome the poison backlash of the Jade Phosphorous Serpent. Dugu Bo subsequently joins the sect and reaches the Titled Douluo rank after absorbing the Nether Sky Poison Python 175 188 201 203.

Fengzhi’s recruitment of Dugu Bo restores the sect’s high-level combat power and allows the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect to recover much of its former strength, though Dugu Bo’s later death leaves the sect dangerously weakened again 212 275.

Raising the Next Generation

Fengzhi places his hopes in Ning Rongrong and Ning Chengjiu, whose spider-emperor martial souls can compensate for the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda’s inherent limitations. He especially favors Chengjiu, whose Twin Martial Souls and Innate Full Soul Power make him central to Fengzhi’s plans for the sect and Heaven Dou 213 220 242.

He sends Chengjiu to Shrek Academy despite Chen Xin’s concerns, believing that the academy’s dangers and conflicts will temper the boy into a successor capable of carrying the sect’s future 242 243.

Conflict in Heaven Dou City

After a Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect disciple harasses Xiao Wu, Fengzhi personally travels with Dugu Bo to confront Tang San and Yu Xiaogang. He supports Dugu Bo with the Seven Treasure True Body and attempts to use the dispute as an opportunity to obtain Tang San’s hidden weapons 228 229 234.

The confrontation results in serious injuries to both Fengzhi and Dugu Bo, imperial scrutiny of the sect, and Bibi Dong’s eventual escape from Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect custody 230 233 236.

Beast Tide and Political Collapse

After Chengjiu identifies Xiao Wu as a transformed hundred-thousand-year soul beast, Fengzhi mobilizes sect forces, Chen Xin, and Dugu Bo in pursuit of her. The operation contributes to another massive Beast Tide in the Star Dou Great Forest 264 265 273.

Facing the forest kings’ wrath, Fengzhi attempts to offer Dugu Bo’s life as compensation. Although he survives, the sect loses Dugu Bo, Chengjiu’s Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Bone, and much of its public credibility 275 276 280.

Desperate to preserve the sect, Fengzhi petitions Qian Xunji overnight and pays substantial compensation for Martial Soul Hall to issue a proclamation shifting the primary blame onto Dugu Bo. The declaration reduces the sect’s immediate liability but portrays Fengzhi as a leader unable to control his own subordinates 278 279 280.

Fall of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect

The weakened sect is attacked by the Holy Spirit Cult under Tang Hao, Bibi Dong, and Ning Rongrong. Chen Xin is unable to withstand Tang Hao and Bibi Dong together, while Yu Yuanzhen plunders the sect’s treasury, political tokens, Spirit Bones, cultivation methods, and Gold Soul Coins 282 283.

Bibi Dong captures and poisons Fengzhi, while Ning Rongrong participates in restraining him without pity 284. Three days later, the sect publicly claims Fengzhi has resigned and entered closed-door cultivation, installing Ning Rongrong as sect master and Bibi Dong as Chief Sect Protecting Elder 288.

In reality, Fengzhi remains chained beneath the sect and is tortured while his Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda begins to undergo a forced corruption 292.

Trivia

  • He is described as an auxiliary-type soul master without offensive power, yet leads a sect protected by powerful Titled Douluo 130 163.
  • His public image as a compassionate, refined sect master sharply contrasts with his private methods and political ambitions 150 197.
  • Fengzhi’s preference for Ning Chengjiu over Ning Rongrong was a major source of Rongrong’s resentment and contributed to her later betrayal 220 282.
  • Although the public was told that Fengzhi had retired into closed-door cultivation to atone, he was actually a prisoner of the Holy Spirit Cult within his own former sect 288 292.
