Yu Xiaogang was born to Yu Yuanzhen, Sect Master of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. His mutated martial soul, Luo Sanpao, was initially viewed as a failed mutation, and his cultivation remained trapped at level 29. Rather than accept this limitation, he devoted himself to researching mutated martial souls and ancient theory texts. 21 76

His half-level Innate Soul Power and defective martial soul made him an object of ridicule within his clan. His childhood included bullying by fellow disciples and repeated failures, with Yu Yuanzhen providing the comfort and protection that his wider clan withheld. Bibi Dong later experiences these memories from within his body during the Valley of Love’s illusion. 247 351 352

Qian Xunji arranged for Xiaogang to study in the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, telling him that his research into martial soul mutation was his unique value. The encouragement restored Xiaogang’s confidence and led him to regard Qian Xunji as both mentor and foster father. 25 26 27

While studying in the sect’s Library Pavilion, Xiaogang met Bibi Dong. Their shared interest in martial soul theory became mutual attraction, but the relationship brought retaliation from the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect; Xiaogang was severely injured and had his legs broken. 75

Before making that report, he restrained Yu Yuanzhen from immediately attempting to seize Xiao Wu. He warned that a reckless capture could provoke her escape or self-destruction and that Tang San’s attachment to her complicated the situation, favoring cooperation with Martial Soul Hall instead. 249

After reaching level 80, Xiaogang and Yu Yuanzhen formally offered the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan’s loyalty to Martial Soul Hall. During the subsequent conflict in the Star Dou Great Forest, Xiaogang attempted to take the unconscious Xiao Wu away from the battlefield. After ordering Liu Erlong to evacuate the critically injured Flender, he used his torso bone’s spatial ability to retrieve Xiao Wu and fled in the opposite direction. Chen Xin pursued on Ning Fengzhi’s orders and pierced Xiao Wu with the Seven Kill Sword before Xiaogang could escape with her. 270 271

During the Suotuo City tournament period, Xiaogang discovered that Tang San had supplied deliberately flawed versions of Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track and Purple Demon Eye. After Qian Renling identified the tampered circulation routes, Xiaogang exposed the scheme to Oscar and accepted the injured food-system soul master as his disciple. 309 310

Xiaogang subsequently taught Oscar the Three Ultimates of Yu-Dong and secured his oath of loyalty to both himself and Martial Soul Hall. When Yu Yuanzhen later informed him that Bibi Dong had appeared as the Holy Spirit Cult’s vice leader alongside Tang Hao, Xiaogang was left uncertain whether she remained the Dong’er he loved and resolved to seek Qian Xunji’s guidance. 319 327

After Shrek qualified for the tournament finals, Xiaogang escorted Oscar to Spirit City. He used Oscar’s disillusionment with his teammates’ concealed elite backgrounds to encourage a firmer commitment to Martial Soul Hall, then supervised his introduction to offensive, defensive, and flying Soul Guidance equipment. 337 341

In the Valley of Love, Xiaogang was offered a choice between evolving Luo Sanpao into a Golden Sacred Dragon and receiving an opportunity for insight. Though the evolution would have fulfilled his lifelong ambition to overcome Luo Sanpao’s defective image, he chose insight after recognizing the value of his decades-long bond with his martial soul. 357

His ensuing enlightenment raised his Soul Power to level 86 and transformed his understanding of emotional cultivation. The obsessive love that had sustained the Three Ultimates of Yu-Dong had changed during the illusions, weakening their original forms, but he discovered a broader path based on integrating the many emotions of his life. Rong Nianbing secretly sent emotional Divine Power into Xiaogang’s brow to assist his comprehension. After Xiaogang and Bibi Dong had experienced four intertwined lives in the illusions, they met with a fuller understanding of each other’s suffering but remained unable to speak or reconcile. At Qian Xunji’s instruction, Xiaogang returned through a spatial passage to Spirit City for the tournament finals, with Bibi Dong following him before the passage closed. 366

Xiaogang begins as insecure and intensely sensitive about his failed martial soul, masking his inferiority with a scholarly, master-like demeanor. He is earnest about martial soul theory and craves recognition for his research. 21 26 59

For much of his life, his devotion to Bibi Dong is absolute and frequently obsessive. Believing she is imprisoned or coerced by Ning Fengzhi, he measures his cultivation, loyalty, and life goals against rescuing her. This fixation drives both his rapid growth and his reckless assassination attempt. 96 103 118 236

Following his injuries and recovery, he becomes more hardened, action-oriented, and calculating. He remains grateful to Qian Xunji, but that gratitude is shaped by Qian Xunji’s sustained manipulation and material support. 136 138

Although Liu Erlong openly confesses her love for him, Xiaogang rejects the possibility of treating her as a replacement for Bibi Dong or using her as a Soul Tool. His attachment to Dong’er remains the emotional burden he refuses to relinquish. 202 203

He explains to Flender that his own past mistakes caused Dong’er humiliation and suffering, leaving him permanently indebted to her. His refusal to accept another relationship is therefore rooted not only in longing but also in guilt and a conviction that abandoning her would betray what she endured for him. 203

As a teacher, Xiaogang is stern, pragmatic, and attentive to his students’ cultivation. He may be impatient with Tang San’s fixation on Xiao Wu, but he still provides sound theoretical instruction and acts to protect injured students such as Oscar. 222 225 306

His judgments can display political and personal double standards. He initially considers Tang San’s public killing excessive, yet excuses it after emphasizing that the victims belonged to the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect.
