Background / History

Toby ruled Copperfield, an underground city whose cavern ceiling was embedded with naturally glowing yellow gems. His authority was extensive enough that intelligence brokers feared retaliation from his pursuit squads, and Captain Gill sought his protection after Chen Qiang escaped the slave ship. 25 26 28

Copperfield operated through slave trafficking. Toby's Playground, described as the city's largest and most luxurious building, functioned as an amusement park in name but housed enslaved people in cylindrical glass containers. First Battle and Escape

Toby employed poisonous, explosive, and healing gems before trapping Chen Qiang in Gem Space. Chen Qiang survived having his body reduced to a skeleton, restrained Toby with Seastone chains, and broke out of the space; Toby escaped through the yellow gems embedded in Copperfield's ceiling. 34 35

Copperfield Rebellion

Following Toby's defeat, Chen Qiang incited the city's slaves to revolt. Toby hid during the initial chaos, then gathered the surviving slave traders and led them toward the docks, where he fought Chen Qiang again. 38 39 42

Capture and Death

After Chen Qiang destroyed the docked ships and the yellow ceiling gems, Toby's means of escape were cut off. He called for reinforcements, but Chen Qiang captured him with Seastone chains, shattered his legs, and forced him to create gems for Copperfield's destruction.
