Background / History

Ace had already been transferred out of Impel Down's Level 6 when Luffy arrived to rescue him. Jinbe urgently directed Luffy to pursue him, prioritizing Ace's rescue over his own release. 1

At Marineford, Ace was publicly presented as the son of Pirate King Roger and forced to kneel on the execution platform. Whitebeard led his forces to save him, addressing Ace as his “dear son.” 6

Chen Qiang reached Ace during the battle and pulled him away from Sengoku using Seastone chains and a blood sphere as a decoy. While Chen Qiang shielded him from Sengoku's attacks, Ace remained concerned for the injured Oars. 8 9 Luffy later reached Ace and unlocked his shackles. 10

Following Whitebeard's order to retreat, Ace tearfully bowed to Whitebeard before escaping with Luffy. Akainu provoked him by insulting Whitebeard, causing Ace to turn back and fight despite being outmatched. When Akainu attacked Luffy, Ace placed himself in the attack's path; Chen Qiang's intervention prevented a fatal blow, but Ace lost an arm at the shoulder. 11 13

Ace survived the pursuit and escaped alongside Luffy and Jinbe. He mourned Whitebeard after witnessing his death. 15 16

Personality

Ace is fiercely protective of Luffy. He shielded his younger brother from Akainu's attack despite the danger, and later attempted to reassure Luffy after losing his arm. 12 13

His devotion to Whitebeard is equally strong. Ace was moved to tears by Whitebeard's arrival, obeyed his final retreat order, and could not ignore Akainu's insults toward him. 6 11 12

He also shows compassion toward his allies, particularly Oars, whose condition concerned him even while Ace himself was being rescued. 9

Fire Gun

Ace fires a large blast of flame from his palms.
