Background / History

Qin Xa’s recalled pre-@@REF_ENTITY_11278017@@ life includes abandonment by his biological parents after doctors diagnosed an incurable congenital heart condition. He later described himself as an inventor who ran a company, experience that informed his political and commercial instincts. 266 410

Upon arriving on Nuceria, Qin Xa attempted to identify himself through the Imperial Aquila, only to find that the locals neither recognized the symbol nor understood High Gothic. When attacked with electric weapons and tranquilizer darts, he killed the assailants with psychic power despite being affected by the dart’s anesthetic gas. 3

He was taken into Nuceria’s gladiatorial system, where he first saw Angron fighting in the arena and recognized him by name. Qin Xa became Angron’s protector, teacher, and eventual adoptive father, guiding the young Primarch through his early vulnerability rather than treating him solely as a weapon. 4 141 186

Qin Xa helped organize the gladiators by gathering intelligence, planning to expose informants through a false escape scheme, and preparing an uprising against the High-Riders. He argued that the slaveholders’ monopoly on ancient technology—not merely individual cruelty—was the foundation of Nuceria’s oppression. 8 17

After the uprising, he became one of the leading figures of the Rebel Army and ordered the execution of the remaining High-Riders. He framed them as thieves who had stolen power and enslaved the population, using his speeches to ignite further rebellion. 87

Qin Xa later recorded the rebellion’s history and strategy in Lord of Nuceria, intending it as a record for Angron’s Legion. He identified breaking the High-Riders’ technological monopoly as the rebellion’s decisive turning point. 108

Appearance

Qin Xa is an exceptionally large, black-haired man who resembles a Space Marine. Early on Nuceria, he stood nearly three metres tall; he later commonly appeared in robes rather than armor, carrying a book at his waist. 3 102 186

  • Has six fingers on at least one hand. 214
  • Wore no weapon when first fighting Greenskin forces alongside Vulkan, relying on his body and psychic power. 194
  • Later received customized Terminator-pattern power armor designed specifically for psychic warfare. 213
  • His psychic teleportation is often accompanied by drifting snowflakes. 623

Personality

Qin Xa is analytical, self-controlled, and intensely pragmatic. He studies systems of power rather than reducing conflicts to individual morality; on Nuceria, this led him to oppose futile guerrilla warfare in favor of seizing defensible territory and building a durable political order. 64

He treats allies, innocents, and enemies differently. He showed mercy toward a mother and child in the arena and sought practical relief for people transformed into living bricks, yet he was willing to execute High-Riders, weaponize captured nobles, and endorse lethal action against enemies of the uprising. 36 80 87

The Emperor and Malcador characterized Qin Xa as someone who categorizes people as family, friends, neutrals, or enemies, then responds accordingly. This ruthlessness was also central to Angron’s upbringing: Qin Xa taught Angron that empathy did not require treating enemies and allies alike. 183

Abilities & Skills

Psychic Warfare

Qin Xa is a highly capable psyker whose combat applications include telekinesis, force barriers, sensory enhancement, and psychic attacks.

  • Killed five golden-armored knights by twisting their heads—and those of their mechanical steeds—180 degrees. 21
  • Predicted an implant-enhanced swordsman’s movements and defeated him bare-handed. 36
  • Remotely removed a guard’s heart and manipulated nearby machinery. 53
  • Created Psychic Barriers capable of withstanding repeated attacks from an Ork warlord. 206
  • Can be hindered by psychic-suppression devices, though he escaped such a collar and killed its users. 67

Psychic Perception and Memory Reading

Qin Xa uses psychic senses for investigation, intelligence gathering, and analysis.

  • Extracted Tark’s memories to uncover his history and motives. 62
  • Read the memories of Grey Knights to investigate the disappearance of his armor and their mission to find him. 231
  • Interpreted Astropathic communications for the Twelfth Legion. 153 184
  • Possesses an involuntary form of Psychic Premonition that revealed an Eldar trap within the Webway. 217
  • Is noted for sensing Chaos, though he lacks a detectable Soul Projection. 183

Warp Travel and Teleportation

Qin Xa can traverse immense distances through realspace and the Immaterium.

  • Used the Immaterium’s lack of conventional space and time to enter an Astropath’s Soul Projection and observe Nuceria directly. 184
  • Teleported into Angron’s office from hundreds or thousands of light-years away after mastering stronger psychic abilities. 623
  • Later chose to remain in the Immaterium because his increased power risked harming reality universes. 686

Technological Aptitude

Qin Xa combines psychic power with technical knowledge, particularly Nucerian relic technology and cyberwarfare.

  • Installed a controllable backdoor into an automaton processor, enabling remote control, disguise, and hacking. 45
  • Replaced a Security Mech’s processor with a modified unit to seize control of it. 53
  • Established the Knight Legion to train Knight Titan pilots as a military formation rather than hereditary noble households. 280
  • Helped introduce Silver Vine psychic equipment to the World Eaters’ First Company. 455

Transcendent Authority

After completing the “End” trial and slaying Khorne and Slaanesh, Qin Xa absorbed multiple divine authorities and became a transcendent being.

  • Was judged more powerful than the pre-ascension Emperor or the Black King. 674
  • Seized aspects associated with Nurgle and Tzeentch, allowing him to destroy or save multiple reality universes without moving. 686
  • Can independently repair the souls of the Olena Sisters. 687
  • Planned with the Maker to establish time and causality within the Immaterium to anchor and eliminate Tzeentch. 687
