Jiang Liang was transmigrated from Earth. At age six, he underwent his Martial Soul awakening in Nuoding City's Martial Soul Branch Hall, awakening the sentient Sword Bearer and the Cold Moon Sword as Twin Martial Souls with Innate Full Soul Power. Sword Bearer could communicate with him and became known to him as Sword Mother. His parents had been Soul Masters at Nuoding City's Martial Soul Hall branch before dying during a spirit-beast attack. 1 4

Sword Mother had crossed into Douluo Continent with him six years before his awakening. Following his parents' deaths, Jiang Liang lived with Ma Xiunuo, whom he treated as his grandfather. 2

Under Sword Mother's instruction, Jiang Liang converted his soul power into sword qi, entered Qi Refinement and Sword Cultivation, and learned basic swordsmanship at an extraordinary pace.
