Background / History

Gu Rong descended from a branch of the Gu family that left Gu Family Village more than a century earlier. His branch was later exterminated by enemies, leaving him as its sole survivor. He awakened the top-tier Bone Dragon martial soul and Innate Full Soul Power at age six. Without a sect or major power supporting him, he rose through repeated life-and-death struggles to level 88. 18

Gu Ying later verified their kinship through the family genealogy: Gu Rong is her younger brother by generation and Qian Yu's uncle. Their familial connection made him a potential recruit for Martial Soul Hall before he had joined the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect. 16 18

While stalled at level 88 in Heaven Dou City, Gu Rong watched Qian Yu's Great Soul Arena battle after sensing the Dark Sacred Dragon's ultimate darkness and spatially resonant aura. 21

He then sought Qian Yu out at Quiet Garden and requested a decisive duel outside the city. Gu Rong's sole stated objective was to use the pressure of Qian Yu's Dark Sacred Dragon to force his Bone Dragon beyond its long-standing bottleneck. 22

Qian Yu defeated him by using the Darkness Domain to suppress his spatial power. Rather than resent the loss, Gu Rong concluded that the battle had awakened his understanding of the Bone Dragon's origin power and allowed him to perceive the Titled Douluo threshold. 23

Rise to Titled Douluo

Within the following year, Gu Rong received aid from a Martial Soul Hall Titled Douluo and acquired a 90,000-year Hell Bone Dragon soul ring. This enabled him to cross into the Titled Douluo realm at level 91. 54
