History

Recruitment of Tang San

Tang Hao sought Yu Xiaogang out in Nuoding City, asking him to arrange Tang San's Martial Soul awakening and enrollment at Nuoding Academy. After Tang Hao left, Yu Xiaogang immediately considered taking the boy as a disciple and using him to prove his Ten Core Competitiveness Theories. 422

Yu Xiaogang escorted Tang San to the Spirit Hall branch for his awakening, then impressed him with explanations of Innate Soul Power and cultivation ranks. When Tang San arrived at Nuoding Academy and killed the gatekeeper, Yu Xiaogang intervened, offered to teach him, and used Tang San's unusual Blue Silver Grass and rank-seven Innate Soul Power to persuade him that he possessed Twin Martial Souls. Tang San formally became his disciple. 423 424 425

Expanding His Discipleship

Yu Xiaogang initially rejected Li Pei, claiming he only had the capacity to teach Tang San. Upon learning that Xiao Wu possessed Innate Full Soul Power, however, he eagerly sought to accept her as a disciple, expecting that a powerful future student would enhance his reputation. 427

Xiao Wu publicly questioned why Li Pei had been refused while she was being recruited. Yu Xiaogang attempted to delay Li Pei's acceptance by claiming theoretical study would hinder her cultivation, but rumors spread that he only wanted gifted disciples. Facing sustained public criticism, he accepted Li Pei as his disciple to protect his image. 428

Soul Hunting Forest Incident

When Tang San reached level 10, Yu Xiaogang took him alone to Soul Hunting Forest to obtain his First Spirit Ring. His Luoshanpao's odor-based Spirit Skills knocked Tang San unconscious, while its attacks proved ineffective against a Black Phosphorus Snake. Yu Xiaogang was injured when the snake struck Luoshanpao, leaving Tang San to kill the Spirit Beast himself. 429 430

Tang San absorbed the snake's one-hundred-and-twenty-year Spirit Ring, which produced a weak and unstable binding skill. While Yu Xiaogang was unconscious, Qiao Di extracted Luoshanpao's Golden Holy Dragon bloodline, further weakening the Martial Soul. 430

Tang San later learned that a stronger Soul Master should have accompanied a Spirit Ring hunt and began to resent Yu Xiaogang for failing to secure a more suitable ring. He kept Yu Xiaogang alive only because he still wanted the cultivation method for Twin Martial Souls. 431

Fallout and Punishment

Tang Hao also blamed Yu Xiaogang for Tang San's weak First Spirit Ring and severely beat him, leaving him with serious internal injuries. 432

After Tang San introduced Shangguan Li to him, Yu Xiaogang became interested in taking the young Soul Ancestor as a disciple to improve his reputation. He offended her by asking her age, after which she left and Tang San chose to chase after her rather than remain with his teacher. 437

Yu Xiaogang later spread rumors about Shangguan Li after failing to find her. In retaliation, Qiao Di disguised himself as Tang Hao, crippled Yu Xiaogang's cultivation, and left him blaming Tang Hao for the attack. Yu Xiaogang subsequently discovered that he had been emasculated and vowed revenge. 438

Personality

Yu Xiaogang is highly vain and preoccupied with public recognition. He enjoys being regarded as the “Grandmaster,” seeks admiration from Nuoding Academy's students and staff, and treats talented disciples as proof that could elevate the status of his theories. 422 427

He is manipulative in his dealings with Tang San, concealing his intention to use him as a test subject while presenting himself as a benevolent mentor. His pursuit of Xiao Wu and Shangguan Li likewise stems from their talent and the prestige he expects their achievements to bring him. 422 425 437

When his plans fail, Yu Xiaogang avoids responsibility. He blamed Tang San for absorbing the weak Spirit Ring while he was unconscious, slandered Shangguan Li after she rejected him, and planned to use Bibi Dong against Tang Hao while retaining Tang San as his disciple. 430 438

Luoshanpao

Yu Xiaogang's Martial Soul is Luoshanpao, a pig-like spirit that initially contains a trace of Golden Holy Dragon bloodline. Qiao Di later extracts this bloodline entirely, leaving Luoshanpao less agile and more visibly pig-like. 429 430
