Power Progression

Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Approximately thirteen-finger output 135 While newly occupying Megumi Fushiguro's body and contending with Megumi's resistance, Sukuna estimates that his Dismantle can reach the power of thirteen fingers.
Nineteen-finger state 149 Uraume locates Sukuna's preserved mummified body; together with three recovered fingers, Sukuna possesses the power of nineteen fingers. One finger remains sealed by Jujutsu High.
Demon god vessel form 194 After severe injuries, Sukuna temporarily reshapes his vessel into a four-armed, two-faced combat form that restores his physical injuries, at the cost of losing access to the Ten Shadows Technique.

Background

Sukuna was born as a four-armed, two-faced aberration and endured persecution before becoming the strongest sorcerer of the Heian era through repeated battle and an exceptional ability to learn from opponents. He absorbed his twin in the womb, inheriting the complete Shrine technique: slashing and flames 149 162.

After existing for roughly a thousand years, he survives through cursed relics containing fragments of his soul and cursed energy. Kenjaku preserves his mummified original body and facilitates Sukuna's return through vessels 149 195.

Sukuna initially manifests through Yuji Itadori, then seizes Megumi Fushiguro's body in pursuit of the Ten Shadows Technique and Mahoraga. By the time of the worlds' overlap, sixteen of his fingers have been transferred into Megumi 134 142.

Appearance

Sukuna is typically identified by his four eyes and black markings spreading across his face and body.

  • His original demon god form exceeds two meters in height and possesses four arms, two faces, and a fanged mouth in his abdomen 194.
  • His transformed body radiates a level of malice Mito Uzumaki compares unfavorably to even the Nine-Tails 194.
  • While inhabiting a vessel, his appearance can manifest through the host's features, including a mouth and eye appearing on Yuji's face 134.

Personality

Sukuna is predatory, proud, and intensely self-directed. He rejects commands or anyone speaking from a position of superiority, preferring alliances in which he retains the initiative 126.

Despite his brutality, he is not impulsively reckless. His guiding principle is to act within his means: in an unfamiliar world, he gathers intelligence, avoids unfavorable direct confrontations, and retreats when survival demands it 149 193. He treats combat as both a source of pleasure and a means of analysis, valuing unusual opponents such as Shisui more than simple displays of raw power 185.

He claims not to need a grand purpose, acting according to personal interest. Nevertheless, he identifies himself as “the curse born to destroy” Uchiha Kamizuki and seeks to surpass his former peak 141 142 149.

Abilities & Skills

Shrine

Sukuna's innate technique treats all things as material to be disassembled and destroyed 162.

  • Dismantle — an invisible cursed-energy slash usable at range or in close combat 135 184.
  • Cleave — a lethal point-blank slashing attack 184.
  • Divine flames — Shrine also includes an extraordinarily intense flame technique 162 184.
  • Soul-targeting variation — by combining Dismantle with Flying Thunder God, Sukuna develops Flying Thunder God: Eight, a spatially transcending slash 183.
  • Sukuna can gain reinforcement by revealing a technique's workings to his opponent 183.

Malevolent Shrine

Sukuna's Domain Expansion is an open-barrier domain that fills a vast area with mixed slashing attacks 184.

  • It rapidly disintegrates terrain, magma, and rock into debris across the battlefield 192.
  • Its scale and force surpass Obito's domain in both range and destructive power 192.
  • Maintaining the domain at maximum intensity cannot be sustained indefinitely, leaving a vulnerable cooldown period afterward 192.

Reverse Cursed Technique and Chakra Conversion

Sukuna can use Reverse Cursed Technique to convert part of his cursed energy into Chakra, allowing him to fuel and learn ninja techniques 178.

  • His cursed-energy reserves, once converted, can reach at least Tailed Beast-level quantities for long-distance Flying Thunder God teleportation 169.
  • Reverse Cursed Technique normally repairs his injuries, though damage infused with highly concentrated Chakra is difficult for him to heal 169.
  • His demon god vessel transformation can refresh physical injuries outright 194.

Ten Shadows Technique and Mahoraga

After taking Megumi's body, Sukuna gains the Ten Shadows Technique and control over Mahoraga 142 184.

  • He considers Mahoraga crucial enough to target Megumi and oppose anyone who might reclaim the Ten Shadows Technique 134.
  • He withholds Mahoraga against Uchiha opponents because he believes they can permanently take it back 193.
  • The demon god vessel form prevents him from using the Ten Shadows Technique 194.

Flying Thunder God Technique

Sukuna learns the Flying Thunder God Technique after arranging for Obito's cooperation 157.

  • He plants markings thousands of miles away as concealed escape routes 169.
  • He combines teleportation with Dismantle to create Flying Thunder God: Eight 183.
  • He later plans to return from the moon by carving marks into lunar fragments and using them as stepping stones across space 220.

Combat Analysis and Imitation

Sukuna's perception and learning ability are repeatedly compared to Mahoraga's adaptation 157.

  • He identifies the retained techniques available to Kenjaku through vessel possession at a glance 126.
  • He analyzes Susanoo as a manifestation comparable to, yet distinct from, a Domain 162.
  • He recognizes Yuji's altered Dismantle as a soul-striking technique imprinted through their shared vessel history 183.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Kamutoke — Sukuna's special-grade Cursed Tool, used to counter Yuji's massive slash 184.
  • Sukuna's fingers — cursed relics containing portions of his soul and cursed energy; he escapes defeat by transferring himself into one such finger 195.
  • Mummified original body — preserved by Kenjaku and sought by Sukuna as a route to restoring or exceeding his former strength 149.

Relationships

  • Yuji Itadori — Former vessel and primary adversary. Yuji is the reincarnation of Sukuna's absorbed twin and was created by Kenjaku as Sukuna's vessel 179 183.
  • Megumi Fushiguro — Current vessel and wielder of the Ten Shadows Technique. Sukuna covets Megumi's technique and works to suppress his soul's resistance 134 142.
  • Uraume — Devoted attendant who gathers Sukuna's fingers, supports him with sealing techniques, and follows his commands in battle 149 184.
  • Uchiha Kamizuki — Sukuna's central rival. Sukuna calls himself the curse born to destroy Kamizuki and measures his own potential against him 141 149.
  • Uchiha Mikoto — Kamizuki's sister and a major combatant against Sukuna. Their twelve-hour battle ends in a truce, through which Sukuna studies Susanoo and gathers intelligence 169.
  • Obito Uchiha — Temporary, distrustful ally. Sukuna trades domain knowledge for sealing techniques and Flying Thunder God access while intending to exploit Obito's abilities 157 169.
  • Black Zetsu — A failed possessor who becomes Sukuna's ally after Sukuna overpowers him and takes part of his power 196.
  • Kenjaku — A fellow ancient sorcerer whose preparations, vessels, and schemes repeatedly facilitate Sukuna's actions, though Sukuna refuses to be controlled by him 126 142.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Takeover of Megumi Fushiguro

Sukuna warns Yuji that the ancient “Demon Tamer” may reclaim Megumi's Ten Shadows Technique, using Megumi's safety as leverage. He later takes Megumi's body, while secretly seeking the technique and a way to escape Yuji's control 134 142.

Conflict with Uchiha Kamizuki and Jujutsu High

After confronting Kamizuki, Sukuna tests his thirteen-finger Dismantle against Sun, Moon, Star Advance Flower Affection, which effortlessly dismantles the attack into petals 135. He later declares his intention to destroy Kamizuki and orders Tengen to surrender the Prison Realm's back gate to Yuta 141.

Alliance with Obito

Sukuna joins Obito's operation against the Fourth Hokage and the Nine-Tails in exchange for access to Flying Thunder God. Rather than trusting Obito, he intends to learn from and eventually drain every useful technique from him 157.

Battle with Mikoto

Sukuna confronts Mikoto during the Night of the Nine-Tails and summons Mahoraga against her. Their later battle lasts nearly twelve hours and ends in a truce; Sukuna leaves injured but considers the intelligence gained a victory 160 169.

Moryo and the Battle Against Yuji

Sukuna seeks the resentment around the sealed monster Moryo as a source of power, then faces Yuji, Shisui, Itachi, and Takako Uro after the volcano seal collapses 178 179 183. Yuji's soul-targeting Dismantle wounds Sukuna directly, forcing Sukuna to acknowledge Yuji's growth 183.

Malevolent Shrine and Defeat

Encircled by Mikoto, Minato, Yuji, and other powerful fighters, Sukuna deploys Malevolent Shrine to turn the battlefield into a slaughterhouse 192. When outmatched, he attempts to escape through Shrine and Flying Thunder God, temporarily assumes his demon god form, and fights the coalition for two hours before being defeated 193 194 195.

Sukuna survives by escaping through a soul-bearing finger 195.

Alliance with Black Zetsu

Black Zetsu attempts to seize Sukuna's power by possessing him through a finger, but Sukuna's soul overwhelms the possession attempt. Rather than kill Black Zetsu, Sukuna offers him companionship and an alliance to “turn this world upside down” 196.
