Xuanye used the Uchiha’s anger and the Security Division’s authority to strengthen the clan’s position against Konoha’s leadership. After Hiruzen approved an expansion of the Division, Danzō ordered Root to attack Xuanye, who awakened his Mangekyō during the ambush and faced Yamanaka Fu’s Mind Transfer Jutsu.
Xuanye turned Root’s failed assassination attempt into a costly setback for Danzo, then used his Susanoo to stop the Nine-Tails from destroying Konoha. After Minato and Kushina died, Xuanye took responsibility for Naruto and steered suspicion for the attack toward Danzo, leaving Hiruzen’s leadership weakened and Xuanye pursuing the Hokage position.
Xuanye turned Shisui’s attack by Danzo into a public confrontation, exposed Danzo’s crimes, and killed him before claiming control over the investigation into Root. With the other villages watching Konoha’s upheaval, Xuanye secured Orochimaru’s cooperation and prepared for the struggle to become Fifth Hokage.
Xuanye strengthened his bid for Hokage by bringing the Hyuga into the Security Division and confronting Sarutobi Hiruzen over Kumogakure and Danzo’s crimes. Jiraiya returned to Konoha and found Kakashi changed, while Fugaku refused to hand Naruto over and affirmed that Xuanye had been entrusted with the child.
Genya became the Fifth Hokage, consolidated control over Konoha, and led a decisive campaign against Kumogakure in the Land of Grass. After securing Kusagakure’s submission and protection, he sent Itachi and a Hyuga Jonin to investigate a red-haired woman held in a dungeon.
Xuanye secured Konoha’s gains in Kusagakure, negotiated with Kumogakure, and recovered the sealed Uchiha Hikari. Back in Konoha, he positioned Hikari to become clan head while managing the village’s rewards and political tensions.
Xuanye brought Kakuzu to Konoha to audit the village’s finances, then forced Sarutobi Hiruzen and the other clans to repay their embezzled funds. He appointed Kakuzu to lead Finance and began a village-wide business expansion, ending with new terms for clan investment and a final favor to the Uchiha.
Xuanye arranged for Kirigakure’s Kekkei Genkai clans to defect to Konoha, then fought through the village and confronted Obito. Obito escaped after using Izanagi, leaving Xuanye aware that his illusions threatened Obito but that Kamui remained difficult to counter.
Xuanye seized Isobu, broke Kirigakure’s resistance, and brought its persecuted clans to Konoha while maneuvering Sarutobi Hiruzen into a deadly confrontation with the Daimyo. Back in Konoha, he absorbed the newcomers, secured control over the Daimyo’s heir, and hinted to the village leaders that he intended to reshape the Ninja World.
Uchiha Genya pursued control of the Land of Fire, recruited Tsunade to train Kaho, and drew Sarutobi Hiruzen into Obito’s Akatsuki. After a plan involving Yugito left her imprisoned in Kumogakure, Genya visited her and tried to persuade her to join Konoha.
Xuanye tightened his authority in Konoha by bringing Yugito over from Kumogakure and punishing the Hyuga Main Family, while he also tested Orochimaru’s Cursed Seal and subdued Manda. The appearance of White Zetsu raised a new threat, and Xuanye assigned Yugito to help hunt them as he freed Uchiha Hikari from her seal.
Xuanye consolidated Konoha’s power while Tsunade returned to lead its Medical Department, and Sasuke and Boruto arrived from the future while pursuing Urashiki. After Xuanye tested Sasuke and learned about Urashiki’s abilities, he chose to use Naruto as bait and claimed Urashiki’s body and Rinnegan as the price of helping the travelers return home.
Xuanye and his allies fought Otsutsuki Urashiki, whom Raiden Ei ultimately killed, and Xuanye secured the Shikkotsu Forest Summoning Scroll. The arc left Sasuke moved by the Uchiha family’s kindness, Tsunade and Xuanye facing their new relationship, and Orochimaru examining Urashiki’s sealed remains.
Xuanye mastered Senjutsu, manipulated Kabuto into gaining power, and seized control of the Land of Fire as Uchiha Genya. As other nations and the Daimyos reacted to his rule, he sent Kabuto and Hidan into Akatsuki, where Hiruzen challenged Kabuto's loyalty.
Xuanye brought Minato back through Impure World Reincarnation, reclaimed the Nine-Tails chakra, and sent Kabuto to help the Akatsuki capture Gaara. The Akatsuki secured the One-Tail and began planning attacks on Konoha, while Obito warned them about Uchiha Genya.
The Akatsuki launched an invasion of Konoha, where the village’s defenders captured several attackers and fought the intruders’ strongest members. As Nagato unleashed the Six Paths of Pain, Uchiha Hikari awakened a towering Complete Body Susanoo against his summoned beasts.
Guy defeated Pain’s Six Paths, while Xuanye captured Nagato and Konan and consolidated control over Konoha. As Obito moved to revive Madara, Xuanye prepared a covert war that would weaken the other villages while Konoha stayed out of the fighting.
Genya consolidated Konoha’s power by dealing with the Akatsuki prisoners and bringing Gaara and Shukaku under his control, while Kabuto joined Obito and Hiruzen to prepare a war against Konoha. The arc left the Four Great Nations mobilizing against Obito’s forces and considering a later alliance against Konoha.
Orochimaru proved he could resurrect the dead, while the Allied Shinobi Forces faced Uchiha Madara and then suffered a major defeat. Xuanye used the chaos to expand Konoha’s influence and sent Kakashi with him to the Land of Demons to retrieve Miroku.
Uchiha Genya defeated Uchiha Madara and was caught in a devastating attack from the moon, only to survive and turn his fury on the Otsutsuki descendants. He reached the moon and cleaved through the Giant Tenseigan’s attack, the lunar palace, and the moon itself.
