Background

The Flame Mantra initially appears to be an unremarkable Low-Rank Yellow Level technique. Yao Lao recovered it from an ancient battlefield but left it stored in the Bone Flame Ring because its requirement—devouring Exotic Flames to evolve—appeared suicidal and impractical. He later named the originally nameless scroll the Flame Mantra. 81 119 219

Yao Yan had sought information on Yao Chen partly to obtain this technique, believing that its dangerous early stages were outweighed by its potential to lead directly toward the Dou Di realm. He secured the Bone Flame Ring, eroded its Soul Imprint with Soul Erosion Grass, and claimed the technique while Yao Lao remained severely weakened within the ring. 1 80 81

Unlike ordinary flame refinement, the Flame Mantra does not merely let its user borrow a flame. It devours a flame’s origin and makes it part of the user’s own body and Dou Qi. This allowed Yao Yan to retain and combine the traits of Illusory Gold Flame, Green Lotus Core Flame, Fallen Heart Flame, Sea Heart Flame, Bone Spirit Cold Fire, and further flames without the usual backlash suffered by ordinary refiners. 109 110 133 172

As Yao Yan’s path develops, the Flame Mantra ceases to be limited to Exotic Flames alone. It mutates through fusion with other techniques and spiritual forces, eventually helping him assimilate Nine Profound Golden Lightning and form the basis for his Chaos Body. 362 368 576

The Flame Mantra consumes the origin power of flames and permanently incorporates it into its user rather than forming a temporary symbiotic relationship.

Multi-Flame Accommodation

Flame Mantra Dou Qi can contain multiple incompatible flames and gradually reduce their mutual rejection.
