Personality

Naruto is driven by a need for recognition and a stubborn ambition to become Hokage. Early on, he steals the Scroll of Sealing hoping that learning its techniques will let him graduate from the academy and earn Iruka's acknowledgment. His rivalry with Sasuke quickly distracts him from that goal, but it also fuels his determination to grow stronger. 2 3

Naruto steals the Scroll of Sealing to prove himself and graduate, but Qiuyang disguises himself as Sasuke and uses Genjutsu: Mirror Flower to manipulate Naruto into fighting an illusion. Naruto later continues toward Mizuki's meeting point and learns the Multi Shadow Clone Technique. 2 3

Training Under Jiraiya

Jiraiya trains Naruto in summoning, eventually pushing him from a cliff to force him to access the Nine-Tails' chakra. Naruto succeeds in summoning Gamabunta, proving his potential to Jiraiya. 14

Sasuke's Defection

Naruto pursues Sasuke to the Valley of the End. After Sasuke leaves, Naruto is found unconscious in the water by Qiuyang; mistaking Qiuyang for Sasuke causes him to enter a destructive Nine-Tails transformation. 28

Qiuyang subdues Naruto by using Susanoo to withstand his attacks, stripping away the Tailed Beast chakra, and entering Naruto's consciousness to suppress the Nine-Tails with genjutsu. 29

Three-Year Special Training

Following the failure to retrieve Sasuke, Naruto leaves Konoha with Jiraiya for extended training. He remains determined to gain enough strength to bring Sasuke back and to compete for the Hokage position. 30
