Background / History
Su Mo developed the technique after Xiao Wu explained how a transformed Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast self-condenses a ring. His system processed that experience into a secret technique, which Su Mo named the Ring Condensation Technique 4 5.
The initial technique could form a Soul Ring but did not inherently provide soul skills. Su Mo accepted this limitation because the ring itself was necessary to pass his cultivation bottleneck, while he could create skills through other means 5 17.
Su Mo first used the technique outside Nuoding City. By circulating soul power and forming a ring around his martial soul, he condensed a white energy ring that deepened into a stable yellow Soul Ring, demonstrating a method distinct from Xiao Wu's instinctive beast-based condensation 16.
He initially kept the technique secret, reasoning that soul masters would have little interest in rings without attached soul skills while soul beasts could still be found 17. After the spirit-beast extinction made ordinary advancement impossible, Su Mo publicly revealed that his own rings were self-condensed and announced that the technique could be learned by other soul masters 45 51.
At Martial Soul City, Su Mo formally renamed it the Su Mo Ring Condensation Technique and taught its complete method before the continent's major powers 58 59.
Method
Soul Power Circulation
The technique begins with a precise meridian route:
- Soul power begins in the dantian.
- It rises through the chest.
- It branches down both arms.
- It returns through the back and ascends the spine.
- It reaches the crown of the head before returning to the dantian, completing one cycle 58.
Unlike conventional meditation, this circulation route deliberately causes a controlled leakage of soul power from the normal path. The released power is then captured and shaped during condensation; Tang San identified this as a deliberate use of qi deviation rather than an accidental flaw 65 66.
Soul Ring Visualization
The practitioner must simultaneously visualize a stable Soul Ring structure: an interwoven double helix resembling two opposing, balanced dragons, with yin and yang rotating together 59.
As soul power circulates, it arranges itself according to this visualization and accumulates layer by layer until it stabilizes as a Soul Ring 59.
Core Principle
The technique relies on a paired process: the circulation route produces the energy used for condensation, while visualization gives that energy a stable ring structure. Neither component functions properly alone 58 59.
Applications
- Allows Soul Masters to condense Soul Rings using their own accumulated soul power rather than hunting Soul Beasts 51.
- Enables advancement past cultivation bottlenecks after the extinction of Soul Beasts 51 71.
- Ring quality depends on the amount of soul power accumulated by the practitioner 51.
- The circulation route also improves soul-power absorption efficiency when practiced independently as a cultivation method 63.
- Ning Rongrong used the technique to condense her first ring after being stalled at level ten for a decade 70.
- Tang San ultimately used it to break through to the Soul Grandmaster realm after failing to develop an alternative 87.
Limitations and Risks
- Self-condensed rings do not automatically carry soul skills; practitioners must create their own soul skills 5 51.
- Practitioners need sufficient soul-power reserves to form a ring, with greater reserves producing higher-quality results 51.
- The circulation route must be practiced until it can be completed without obstruction before attempting condensation 59.
- Using the circulation method without the visualization technique can cause soul-power blockages, pain, and potentially bodily explosion 58.
- Poorly controlled practice can damage the meridians and dantian or fail to form a ring altogether 59.
- Other internal-energy circulation methods tested by Tang San did not trigger ring condensation, even when combined with Su Mo's visualization structure 65.
- More complex ring structures may be impractical because they cannot be fully memorized and maintained during visualization 66.
Public Release
- Su Mo first declared the technique's existence at the Suotuo Great Soul Arena, stating that it was a path available to all Soul Masters with adequate reserves 51.
- He called for sects, clans, and academies to gather at Martial Soul Hall for a complete disclosure 51.
- At the Martial Soul City presentation, he demonstrated the meridian circulation map and the Soul Ring visualization structure using controlled soul power 58 59.
- Su Mo supervised live practice by three Soul Masters after they had learned the circulation route 59 60.
- Following the presentation, Martial Soul Hall branches offered the technique for free study 68.
Legacy and Controversy
The technique solved the immediate crisis of soul masters being unable to advance without Soul Beast rings. The Soul Master Creation Institute subsequently shifted its main research focus from ring substitutes to Self-Created Soul Skills 71.
Its emergence also undermined the Creation Institute's eleven years of unsuccessful ring research. Institute scholars concluded that its circulation route, visualization method, and meridian control were far beyond their own theoretical framework 63.
Because Xiao Wu, a transformed Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast, had taught Su Mo the original principle of self-condensation, opponents circulated claims that the technique had been taken from her rather than created by Su Mo. Su Mo and Xiao Wu denied that the technique was merely a transformed soul beast's innate method, and Su Mo's human-oriented version was explicitly described as more refined and reproducible than Xiao Wu's instinctive process 16 62 78.
