Nature and Function
A Soul Ring is a stable structure formed from energy and rules. In the traditional system, a Soul Beast’s death leaves behind its energy and rule-based abilities in a form that can attach to a Soul Master’s martial soul. 15
Soul Rings are essential for realm advancement. A Soul Master may continue accumulating Soul Power after reaching a level threshold, but cannot enter the next realm until attaching a ring. 5 37
- Traditional Soul Rings were obtained by killing Soul Beasts. 15
- A Soul Ring can grant or contain a Soul Skill through compatibility between the martial soul and the ring’s rule structure. 15
- Without Soul Beasts or an alternative source of rings, Soul Masters become permanently trapped at cultivation bottlenecks. 42
Formation and Acquisition
| Method | Process | Result / Limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Soul Beast hunting | A Soul Beast dies, leaving an energy-and-rule structure that a Soul Master can absorb. 15 | Traditionally supplied both a Soul Ring and Soul Skills; became unavailable when Soul Beasts went extinct. 15 42 |
| Transformed Soul Beast self-condensation | A transformed Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast draws upon its former cultivation foundation and condenses it into a ring. 5 | Can imprint Soul Skills it already possesses, but relies on an inhuman foundation that ordinary humans cannot replicate. 5 16 |
| Ring Condensation Technique | Soul Power is circulated through a specific meridian route while the user visualizes a stable Soul Ring structure. 58 59 | A human-compatible method that requires no hunting or external source; normally produces rings without inherent Soul Skills. 16 70 |
| Artificial Soul Beast creation | An animal is catalyzed into a Soul Beast, then killed to produce a Soul Ring. 43 | Demonstrated with a newly awakened gray rabbit, producing a very low-quality white ring. 43 44 |
Ring Condensation Technique
Su Mo’s method combines a precise Soul Power circulation route with visualization of the Soul Ring’s internal structure. The two components are inseparable: circulation creates a stable closed-loop flow, while visualization shapes that power into a ring. 58 63
- The visualized structure resembles two interwoven spirals, described as yin and yang balancing one another in a closed loop. 59
- Soul Power layers onto itself under the visualization’s guidance until the ring stabilizes. 59
- Practitioners must first ensure smooth meridian circulation; improper use can cause cultivation deviation. 59 65
- The technique was publicly disclosed by Su Mo in Martial Soul City eleven years after Soul Beast extinction. 57 58
Quality and Colors
| Color | Documented quality | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| White | Very low quality; documented at one-year and ten-year levels 44 68 | Still allows a Soul Master to break through a bottleneck despite its poor quality. 44 |
| Yellow | Century-level 16 70 | Ning Rongrong’s accumulated Soul Power allowed her to condense a century-level yellow First Soul Ring. 70 |
| Black | Ten-thousand-year 38 | Su Mo’s second ring is a documented ten-thousand-year black ring. 38 |
| Red | Hundred-thousand-year 95 175 | Su Mo’s Eighth Ring was condensed directly at this quality; later, all nine of his rings reached this level. 95 175 |
Ring quality is influenced by the amount of Soul Power accumulated before condensation. Soul Masters trapped at bottlenecks for years can form stronger rings if they continue cultivating rather than abandoning training. 68 70
Soul Skills
Traditional Soul Rings can contain Soul Skills because they preserve rule-based abilities originating from Soul Beasts. 15
Self-condensed rings created through the Ring Condensation Technique normally do not possess inherent Soul Skills. 5 70
- The Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda is an exception: its self-condensed rings can still manifest its fixed martial-soul abilities. 70 172
- Raising the quality of a ring without a Soul Skill does not spontaneously create one. 176
- Ring Ascension strengthens Soul Skills already attached to pre-existing rings. 176
- Su Mo later develops and publicizes the Soul Skill Imprinting Technique, allowing Self-Created Soul Skills to be embedded into Soul Rings. 176
Ring Ascension Technique
The Ring Ascension Technique improves an existing Soul Ring’s quality by continuously tempering it with Soul Power. 43 175
- Its Soul Power cost competes directly with normal cultivation, so using it too early delays realm advancement. 43
- Su Mo states that, with sufficient Soul Power, ring quality has no upper limit and can rise beyond hundred-thousand-year quality. 175
- Users must stabilize each increase; insufficient foundations can cause a ring to explode during ascension. 175
- Ordinary Soul Masters without Su Mo’s cultivation and body-tempering methods are generally limited to raising century-level rings toward thousand-year quality. 175
- Su Mo made the technique public after raising all nine of his own rings to red, hundred-thousand-year quality. 175
Role in the Soul Master World
Following the extinction of Soul Beasts, the disappearance of obtainable Soul Rings caused a continent-wide cultivation crisis. Martial Soul Hall’s Creation Institute spent eleven years attempting to create a stable replacement, but could not solve the fundamental structure of a ring. 24 31 42
Su Mo independently succeeded by creating the Ring Condensation Technique, first using it to condense his own ring in secret and later revealing it to the public. 16 17 57 58
- The technique restored the ability of Soul Masters to advance without killing Soul Beasts. 57
- Its release ended the long-standing bottleneck that had trapped Soul Masters across the continent. 57 87
- The later Ring Ascension and Soul Skill Imprinting Techniques transformed self-condensed rings from basic breakthrough tools into customizable foundations for cultivation and combat. 175 176
