In the blink of an eye, more than a year had passed since Shin arrived in the Naruto World.
In the training yard of Tsunade's small estate, Shin held a katana, practicing his slashes.
There were few masters of swordsmanship in the Naruto World; most ninjas relied on ninjutsu during combat, as it was the primary focus of their training.
The only person in Konoha who could be considered a master of the blade was Hatake Sakumo, the White Fang of Konoha, though he did not seem to hold that title yet.
Furthermore, Shin had never heard the name Hatake Sakumo mentioned, likely because he had yet to make a name for himself.
Practicing swordsmanship required more than just hard work; one had to find their own path.
From the very beginning, Shin had determined his own path: to rationally leverage his own advantages.
What were Shin's advantages? A Perfect Sage Body, immense strength, and incredible speed. Therefore, his swordsmanship was destined to triumph through speed and power.
"Triple Slash!"
In less than a second, Shin effortlessly unleashed three strikes, instantly cleaving the wooden post he used for practice into four segments.
It was easy for him to strike three times in a second now; his limit was five.
To strike five times in an instant—that was what it truly meant to be a master of the five-strike-per-second technique.
Even an elite jonin, if caught off guard by Shin closing the distance, could be killed in an instant.
If I could combine this with space-time ninjutsu, I can already imagine myself reaping lives on the battlefield.
It was a pity that Shin did not know any space-time ninjutsu yet. He certainly wanted to learn; after all, such techniques were incredibly useful, serving as top-tier tools for both assassination and survival.
"Shin, come eat breakfast! We have a test today, so we need to get to the Ninja Academy early," Kushina called out to him.
Shin sheathed his katana and headed toward the house, where Kushina had already prepared breakfast on the table.
The meal consisted of bread and milk. Shin had actually baked the bread himself; Kushina had merely set the table.
In any case, Shin dared not let Kushina cook breakfast. She was a master of "dark cuisine," and after eating one of her meals, Shin had spent the entire morning vomiting.
Ever since then, Shin had forced Kushina to retire from the kitchen entirely, strictly forbidding her from entering.
After breakfast, Shin prepared bento boxes for both of them for lunch and then they headed out.
Tsunade was not at home; as an elite jonin, she had plenty of missions to attend to.
Upon arriving at the Ninja Academy and entering the classroom, Shin noticed that the students were either looking miserable or brimming with excitement.
Since there was a test today, the high-achievers were naturally excited—it was the perfect time to show off.
As for those with poor grades, they wore long faces, as if they had lost their life savings.
"Mikoto, I'm counting on you for the theory test this morning."
After sitting down, Shin spoke to Mikoto.
The morning was dedicated to the theory exam. Shin had no desire to study the material, and since the test questions were truly bizarre, he had no choice but to cheat.
One had to choose the right person to cheat from, and while the class was full of slackers, Mikoto was a top student who placed first in every theory test.
"Just make sure you don't get caught," Mikoto said with a faint smile.
"Don't worry, I guarantee I won't get caught," Shin replied.
Mikoto rolled her eyes at him.
"You said the same thing last time, and you still got caught, which ended up getting me punished along with you."
"Cough, cough, that last time was just an accident."
Thinking back to being caught cheating previously made him feel embarrassed, but that had been a fluke; it would certainly not happen again.
The morning passed, and the theory test concluded. Shin had copied Mikoto's answers, so he figured his score should be decent this time.
He had also helped Kushina and Nawaki cheat, as both of them were also academic slackers.
After the theory test, it was time for a break. Shin, Kushina, and Mikoto found a quiet spot to eat their bento.
Over the past year, Shin and Kushina had become very close friends with Mikoto.
"We have the practical combat test this afternoon. Are you two nervous?" Mikoto asked Shin and Kushina.
"Why would I be nervous? We've taken this test so many times already," Shin said while eating.
At the Ninja Academy, they held tests every month, which was quite frequent.
"Honestly, there's no need to care about these test scores. They don't affect graduation anyway," Shin told Mikoto.
"Then why do you bother cheating?"
Mikoto looked at Shin with a strange expression, nearly causing him to choke on his food.
"Cough, cough, I just don't want to be a dead last."
"Mm-hmm, I think the same way." Kushina nodded and said.
After finishing their meal and resting for a while, the afternoon combat test began, and Tanaka led the entire class to the training ground.
"The results of the morning's theory test are out. Uchiha Mikoto achieved a perfect score and is the top student in our class," Tanaka said.
The rest of the class didn't show much reaction, as they were already used to it; Uchiha Mikoto was frequently the top student.
"Also, Uzumaki Shin, Senju Nawaki, did you two cheat? Who copied from whom? Why are your scores identical, and why are the wrong answers the same?"
Tanaka glared at them unkindly. Senju Nawaki's gaze darted around evasively, while Uzumaki Shin remained calm.
However, inside, Shin was cursing Nawaki for being an idiot; he had helped him cheat, and the guy had actually copied everything word for word.
When Shin copied from Uchiha Mikoto, he had intentionally gotten a few questions wrong, and when Kushina copied from Shin, she had also intentionally gotten a few wrong.
But when it came to Nawaki, he had copied everything, including the questions Shin had intentionally missed, so it was no wonder they were caught.
Nawaki, sorry about this, but I have to sell out my teammate now. A teammate this stupid is better off being sold out, Shin thought to himself.
"Tanaka-sensei, it was Nawaki who copied from me. Although I know it's wrong, Nawaki threatened me, saying if I didn't let him copy, he would beat me up every time he saw me. I had no choice."
Shin looked indignant, as if he had truly been threatened.
Nawaki stared at Shin, dumbfounded. Although I did beg you to help me cheat, when did I ever threaten you?
"Nawaki, I never expected you to do something like this. I will definitely tell Mito-sama about this. Of course, if you admit your mistake, I might consider whether or not to tell Mito-sama."
Kushina said with an "angry" expression.
Shin secretly gave Kushina a thumbs up, deciding that he wouldn't include Nawaki in future exams; a pig-teammate was just too hard to carry.
Nawaki looked grief-stricken, feeling that Kushina's words were the real threat—a threat to force him to confess. Shin and Kushina were both so wicked.
"I'm sorry, Tanaka-sensei, it was indeed me who copied." Nawaki lowered his head and admitted his mistake to Tanaka.
"Copy the questions on this test paper one hundred times and hand it in within three days," Tanaka said mercilessly.
Nawaki felt as if he had been struck by lightning. Copying it one hundred times would surely work him to death, and with only three days to do it, he felt like he wanted to die.
