Background

Tang Wulin first appears while trying to protect Na'er from thugs. Though injured, he forces himself back to his feet and refuses to let Su Chen take her away without proof of his identity. Su Chen presents a law-enforcement token and leaves with Na'er, while Tang Wulin is left distressed by the separation and suspicious of the young nobleman. 1 2

After returning home, Tang Wulin tells his mother, Lang Yue, about the incident. She explains that Su Chen is known for resolving cases in Red Mountain City, but Tang Wulin remains uneasy because of his instinctive attachment to Na'er. 4

He later enrolls at Eastsea Academy. Initially assigned to Class Five after fighting his roommate Zhou Changxi and then Xie Xie, he is transferred into Grade One Class One at Wu Zhangkong's request. 33 35

Tang Wulin is stubborn, compassionate, and strongly protective of people he considers vulnerable. He risks himself against thugs for Na'er, later joins Xie Xie in defending a braised-beef-stew shop owner from extortionists, and refuses to abandon fights even after severe exhaustion or injury. 2 42 51

He is practical about his own limits. Although he does not fear hardship, he openly declines Xie Xie's attempt to push him into sparring Gu Yue because he recognizes that her elemental attacks are far beyond what he can handle. 42

Tang Wulin values loyalty and opportunities for self-improvement. He remains with the Tang Sect rather than accept Mu Ye's invitation to join the Body Sect, and he chooses to remain in Eastsea City after becoming Zhen Hua's disciple so he can continue studying with his teacher and classmates. 112 113

He prefers earning things through his own efforts and is uncomfortable accepting expensive assistance without repayment. When Su Chen provides a Dragon Scale Fruit and Spirit Ascension Platform access, Tang Wulin treats the help as a debt and promises to work hard to repay him. 44 47
