Background

Gu Yue split away the emotional part of herself to create Na'er, retaining their shared memories while becoming markedly more rational. She allocated Na'er thirty percent of their power and kept the greater share for her own goal: reviving the Soul Beast race. She chose to remain in Eastsea City to observe Su Chen and integrate into human society, initially viewing him as an ordinary but overly flirtatious human genius. 30 41

As the principal self of the Silver Dragon King, Gu Yue possesses knowledge inherited from the Dragon God, including extensive understanding of dragon bloodlines. Her original ambitions included recovering her former strength, resurrecting the Dragon God, and leading the Soul Beast race against humanity. Learning about human society and its rapidly advancing technology reinforced her decision to remain concealed rather than begin a premature war. 49 62 76

After taking human form, Gu Yue had to cultivate again from the beginning. Her sealed origin power gradually converted into cultivation, explaining her rapid growth, but she refused to force it beyond Level 25 early on because doing so would weaken her potential. 37

Leng Yaozhu accepted Gu Yue as her second disciple, placing her under the same master as Su Chen. Gu Yue initially encountered her while seeking a Soul Spirit after sending Na'er to Shrek Academy; lacking the money to purchase a thousand-year Soul Spirit, she accepted Leng Yaozhu's patronage despite disliking the prospect of becoming Su Chen's junior sister. Gu Yue joined Class One, challenged Su Chen during her assessment, and was appointed vice-class monitor after demonstrating her elemental talent. 37 40 41

Gu Yue regards reunion with Na'er as necessary to regain her complete power. She expects the fusion to require Na'er's willing participation without lingering attachments, a prospect complicated by their shared feelings for Su Chen. 257

Her three-year pact with Na'er also fits her larger timetable: she expects to gain control of the Spirit Pagoda and bring her preparations close to completion during that period. She believes their fusion can then restore her cultivation to its peak. The deadline also coincides with the end of her five-year agreement with Su Chen, although she remains doubtful that he can resolve the conflict between humanity and Soul Beasts. 257

Her initial approach to Su Chen was calculating: she intended to investigate his secrets while judging whether Na'er's faith in him was misplaced. Over time, however, his support, protection, and willingness to strengthen her caused that distance to erode. Gu Yue becomes emotionally invested in him, prone to jealousy, sulking, and embarrassment, while still struggling with the potential conflict between humanity and Soul Beasts. 41 80 83 252

Despite her sharp tongue and destructive combat style, Gu Yue is not portrayed as malicious. Su Chen notes that she causes trouble through her temper and lack of restraint rather than a desire to harm others. 43

Her allegiance to Soul Beasts nevertheless creates moments of genuine danger. After discovering that Su Chen's bloodline surpasses the Dragon God's, she briefly considers killing him before he can become an insurmountable obstacle to her plans. Torn between that calculation and her affection for him, she extends a dragon claw that pierces his neck, then becomes deeply concerned for his wounds. 76 77 78

Her strong-willed demeanor conceals a need for reassurance. When Su Chen responds to her bad mood by avoiding her, she confronts him in tears for failing to comfort her. Her possessiveness initially leads her to forbid Na'er from seeking Su Chen at Shrek. When Na'er finds him through the Star Dou Battle Network anyway, Gu Yue relents and negotiates a three-year compromise, though the prospect of their eventual fusion leaves her sorrowful. 234 257

Gu Yue is protective of Xu Xiaoyan and accepts responsibility for keeping her safe in battle. During the survival assessment, she feels guilty after their opponents repay mercy with betrayal, but continues shielding Xu Xiaoyan even while becoming exhausted and injured herself. 338 340 342

Although competitive in serious combat, she has little interest in virtual rankings for their own sake. Before the survival assessment, she generally defeats opponents she can readily overcome and surrenders against stronger ones rather than spend time revealing her Battle Armor or prolonging a match. 343
