Background / History

Lanlos was killed by Forest Trolls before his body could be disposed of, then inexplicably revived. The returned youth retained chaotic memories, including recollections of a noble surname and a life before arriving in Azeroth, but regarded himself as no longer the original Lanlos. He concealed the Sargerite Keystone within his mind and lived as a wanderer instead. 5

Fergus, chief of Golden Branch Village, took Lanlos in roughly half a year before the village’s destruction. Lanlos suffered from a leg ailment and relied on a cane, but his exceptional reading ability and curiosity led Fergus to secure him a teaching-assistant invitation to Fastherin Academy. Lanlos accepted partly in hopes of learning more and curing his condition. 6

Before departing, Lanlos began studying arcane magic independently with fragmentary memories inherited from Belash. He cast his first Fireball and became a formal first-rank mage, though he feared that the Fel-tainted techniques in those memories could corrupt him. 7 8

Golden Branch Village was later destroyed by Amani and Darkpine trolls allied with demons. Fergus and Ilana were killed, while Sores died after condemning Lanlos’s perceived cowardice. Driven by grief and revenge, Lanlos accepted the Keystone’s Fel power and massacred Tregra’s force; the aftermath left him physically weakened and horrified by his own actions. 12 13

Alleria Windrunner found him as the village’s sole survivor. Lanlos personally carved the names of the dead onto their headstones, including a memorial for Sores, whose body was not recovered. During this period, he also began hearing a hostile inner voice identifying itself as “Duan Ming,” suggesting a split consciousness. 14

Lanlos proceeded to Sunstrider Isle and entered Fastherin Academy under Magister Alona. Despite resentment over his nepotistic appointment, his questions about magical education and rapid progress earned recognition from Alona and Lansan. 17 19 21

Appearance

Lanlos is a young High Elf with gray-white hair and azure eyes. His calm, penetrating gaze is repeatedly described as inconsistent with his apparent age. 5

  • Initially frail and disabled, walking with a cane due to a leg ailment. 5 6
  • His Fel-altered body later heals his lame leg and allows him to stand straight. 16
  • His eyes can briefly flash ghostly green when Fel influence surfaces. 14
  • His low recorded Charisma score is 8, despite his belief that his appearance and reserved demeanor should make him more appealing. 15 16

Personality

Lanlos is observant, analytical, and unusually composed under pressure. He prioritizes gathering information, identifying practical solutions, and exploiting magical mechanics over relying on conventional authority. His conduct during the Murloc crisis, the Conduit Crystal incident, and the accusations at the Eastern Temple demonstrates a tendency to reason through danger rather than submit quietly. 9 36

He values curiosity and believes teachers should explain concepts rather than dismiss students with rote instruction. This outlook influences Fastherin’s curriculum after Alona adopts his concerns about foundational education and professional courses. 19 21

Despite his maturity, Lanlos can be teasing, petty, and openly jealous of others’ higher Charisma scores. He is particularly prone to provoking Vereesa and mocking Sores’s “Murloc Slayer” reputation. 5 21 28

His greatest internal conflict is his desire for power. Lanlos fears becoming a demon or joining the Burning Legion, yet repeatedly risks Fel use, mana absorption, and dangerous magical experimentation to become strong enough to avoid future helplessness. 7 26 44 45

Abilities & Skills

Arcane Spellcasting

Lanlos rapidly develops from a self-taught novice into a third-circle spellcaster, aided by the Keystone’s spell-model analysis and projection functions. 7 20 46

  • Casts Fireball, including intercepting a Murloc Shaman’s Lightning Bolt. 8 10
  • Uses Mage Hand, Force Impact, Arcane Missiles, Invisibility, Speed Dash, Animate Rope, Magic Weapon, and defensive shield spells. 20 25 29 30
  • Can empower lower-circle spells for greatly increased output, though this demands additional mana and preparation. 26 29
  • Uses Shocking Grasp through his blade to paralyze targets without direct bodily contact. 25
  • Studies Pyroblast but initially struggles with its precision and mana-output requirements. 47
  • Heavy casting causes mental exhaustion, dizziness, and weakness; the Keystone’s advanced functions can also consume his mana rapidly. 8 20

Fel Powers

Lanlos gained Fel abilities after accepting the Sargerite Keystone during the fall of Golden Branch Village. 12 13

  • Fel Combustion — Sacrifices 8% health to gain +3 Strength and +1 Agility for one minute; can be sustained for up to 12 minutes. 23
  • Immolation — Burns his life force to deal Fire and Chaos damage to nearby enemies, costing 1% health per second. 45
  • Life Tap — Drains a touched target’s health to restore his own, with up to 20% additional health gained. 45
  • Fel Surge — Doubles Fel Combustion’s bonuses and removes health costs from Fel talents, but drains 2% health per second and grants the unknown Demon Within status. 45
  • Fel power fuels destructive combat strength but provokes addiction, violent impulses, and fear of corruption. 7 13 44

Sargerite Keystone

The Sargerite Keystone is a Titan-created former management system for Mardum that bonded with Lanlos. It digitizes his attributes, archives memories, analyzes beings and spells, and projects spell models directly into his visual perception. 15 20

  • Records his physical and magical statistics, allowing immediate comparison with opponents. 15 21 30
  • Archives spell knowledge and produces 3D spell-array projections for practice and optimization. 20 47
  • Can analyze unfamiliar abilities, including the Arcane Aberration’s Mana Burn. 30 32
  • Requires enormous mana; when its reserves are depleted, it enters standby and drains Lanlos’s own mana to operate. 20
  • Can replenish its energy by processing powerful mana sources, creating a dangerous temptation to consume crystals, Ley Lines, or even the Sunwell. 20 45

Soul Harvest

Lanlos possesses Soul Harvest, a dangerous ability he considers using on a sleeping troll during the Tor’watha operation. 39

  • Can harvest a target’s soul.
  • Its use carries unspecified risks, making Lanlos hesitant even when it could provide useful information. 39

Physical Combat

Although primarily a mage, Lanlos has practical close-quarters ability derived from his former noble training and demonic experience. 25

  • Possesses basic archery, horsemanship, and swordsmanship knowledge. 9 25
  • Uses speed-enhancing magic and Fel reinforcement to compensate for his originally frail body. 23 25
  • Combines melee attacks, Shocking Grasp, and the Windrunner Blade to fight elemental enemies. 25 31
  • Sustained use of Berserking severely impairs his breathing and concentration. 40

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Sargerite Keystone — Titan artifact integrated with Lanlos’s mind; provides analysis, memory, projections, and other functions at a heavy mana cost. 15 20
  • Windrunner Blade — Curved blade originally entrusted to him by Lirath; later formally given to Lanlos by Sylvanas as a token of gratitude. It can conduct Shocking Grasp. 22 25 47
  • Arcane Staff — Awarded by Fastherin Academy; grants +1 Intelligence, 6% spell haste, 18% reduced Fire-spell mana cost, and one storage slot for a third-circle-or-lower Fire spell. 48
  • Bag of Holding — A demiplane container awarded alongside the Arcane Staff; approximately 0.5×1×2 in internal dimensions. 48
  • Cane — Used while his leg ailment persisted in Golden Branch Village. 5 6

  • Fergus — Adoptive father figure and Golden Branch Village chief. He arranged Lanlos’s invitation to Fastherin Academy and was killed during the village’s destruction. 6 12
  • Sores Silverblade — Ranger companion whose boastful “Murloc Slayer” title Lanlos mocked. Sores died during the attack on Golden Branch Village, and Lanlos vowed to let him rest in peace. 5 12 14
  • Ilana — Quel'dorei ranger and friend. Lanlos protected her from Murloc Shamans, but she was later killed in the destruction of Golden Branch Village. 5 10 12
  • Alleria Windrunner — Farstrider leader who found Lanlos after the massacre, offered comfort, and arranged Sarell’s escort to Sunsail Harbor. 14
  • Sarell — Ranger assigned to escort and discreetly observe Lanlos after Golden Branch Village’s fall. 14 17
  • Alona — High Elf Magister and Lanlos’s mentor at Fastherin Academy. She tutors him, supports his educational ideas, and awards him academy resources while maintaining strict discipline. 17 21 48
  • Lansan Paileron — Senior teaching assistant who initially resented Lanlos’s appointment but later respected his academic insight; he also became Lanlos’s creditor. 19 23
  • Vereesa Windrunner — Lirath’s sister and Alleria’s younger sister. She initially attacks Lanlos over the Windrunner Blade, but their hostile rivalry develops into mutual trust after they survive several missions together. 22 29 31 36
