Background / History

Velania was orphaned during the Troll Wars and endured bullying and humiliation afterward. She entered the path of Arcane magic through her beauty and charm, but lacked both the talent and diligence required for advancement. Seeking rapid success, she secured the post of Ley Line Warden at the remote Western Temple despite criticism of her limited strength. 35

She attempted to absorb the immense magic around the Western Temple, but the power eroded her body. Purple and azure magical crystals replaced areas of her skin, threatening both her life and the appearance on which she had built her status. Her fear of becoming an object of ridicule, resentment toward Quel'Thalas's class system, and desire for power led her to sell her soul to the Burning Legion. 35

Fel energy granted by Sathael could burn away the visible crystallization temporarily, restoring her appearance at a cost. She became Sathael's elven protégé and helped his plan to use the temples' conduit devices and Ley Lines to open a portal from the Shattered Abyss to Azeroth. 35 44

Her pursuit of revenge and beauty turns into cruelty. She tortures and sacrifices her own apprentice without remorse, taking visible pleasure in the victim's suffering. 34 Despite this ruthlessness, she fears Sathael intensely and becomes desperate when faced with failure or the possible loss of the fel power preserving her body. 35 45

Western Temple Mission

Velania receives Lanlos and the academy students at the Western Temple, assigning them to locate the flow-guiding array and recover the missing Conduit Crystal. While Lanlos investigates, she maintains a friendly façade and later sends him with a second crystal to the Eastern Temple. 24 25 33

Conduit Crystal Sabotage

Her deception is exposed when the crystal delivered by Lanlos erupts with fel energy. Velania then sacrifices her apprentice to contact Sathael, confirming that the temple devices are being used to disrupt magical communications and seize control of Quel'Thalas's Ley Lines. 34 35

Portal Scheme and Death

Velania kneels before the forming portal at the Western Temple as the altered Ley Lines converge under fel guidance. When Lanlos causes the portal to collapse, Sathael condemns her as a failure and attacks her. 44 45

Later, Velania is found dead on the Western Temple altar with a dagger embedded in her spine. An apprentice claims to have killed her out of fear after witnessing Velania's murders. 46
