Background / History

Yatsuhashi was born to Uchiha Tesho and Uchiha Uruchi, civilian Uchiha who operated a well-known okonomiyaki shop in Konoha. Though already a genin, he initially lacked the chakra reserves and ninjutsu talent expected of one; he had never undertaken a field mission and supported himself through the family shop. Orochimaru recruited him as a laboratory assistant because of his exceptional research aptitude, granting him the unusual designation of “Special Genin.” 2 3

Seeking power despite his limitations, Yatsuhashi trained in taijutsu with Might Guy from childhood and conducted research with Orochimaru in the afternoons. He underwent a dangerous Hashirama Cell experiment intended to awaken his Sharingan. Orochimaru saved him from its immediate consequences but warned that the experiment could shorten his lifespan before defecting from Konoha. 1 2

After Orochimaru’s defection, Yatsuhashi was screened by Danzo and Uchiha Shisui. He concealed his own experiment while surrendering Orochimaru’s stored First Hokage Cell culture, then rejected Fugaku’s attempt to recruit him into the Military Police Force because he considered himself loyal to Konoha. 2 3

His first major field assignment took him to the Land of Water with Anko Mitarashi to secure intelligence concerning the Three-Tails’ revival. While covering Anko’s withdrawal against Karatachi Yagura, Yatsuhashi injected himself with First Hokage Cell Serum, opened four Inner Gates, and awakened the Mangekyo Sharingan. Minato Namikaze subsequently recruited him into Anbu Team 6 under Kakashi Hatake. Yatsuhashi also became deeply involved with the Iburi Clan, helping secure their pardon, relocation, housing, and economic future in Konoha. The clan came to recognize him as its leader. 15 21 22 25 45

Yatsuhashi is a young Uchiha man who initially appears physically unremarkable, with ordinary black eyes before activating his dōjutsu.

Despite his ambition and willingness to pursue dangerous power, he repeatedly acts to protect others. He shields Yukimi, shows restraint against Tenzō, helps the Iburi Clan establish a life in Konoha, and attempts to steer Itachi away from indiscriminate killing. 19 20 22 42

He can also be blunt and intimidating toward those who provoke him. After overwhelming Uchiha Tekka in taijutsu, he forces him to address him as “Lord Yatsuhashi.” 29
