Background / History
King Cold ruled from a palace on his home planet in the central North Galaxy. When Frieza recovered from his defeat on Namek, Cold authorized him to attack the surviving Saiyans and urged him to bring Cooler. Cold took the legend of the Super Saiyan seriously enough to consider Frieza’s revenge campaign a threat to the family’s rule 115.
He later mobilized a vast army alongside Frieza. Concerned by Raditz’s rapid territorial gains and the gathering of surviving Saiyans, Cold joined the invasion personally despite having stayed away from combat for years. On approach to the M187 Branch, his forces detected two Battle Power readings above Frieza’s. Cold ordered the planet destroyed, reasoning that Frieza could survive in space while Saiyans could not 133 138.
Raditz intercepted Cold’s Planet Destroyer Ball and attacked before he could transform. Wounded, Cold launched another ball toward the planet to force Raditz to divert his attention. Raditz sent it back, but Cold survived the explosion, completed his final transformation, and attacked the M187 Branch. He killed several Saiyans and Jeice before Raditz and Goku returned 139 140 147.
Despite his greater raw power, Cold struggled against Raditz’s speed and technique. Goku and Vegeta joined the fight, and the three Super Saiyans defeated him with a combined energy attack 148 149.
A King Cold also arrives with Mecha Frieza on a parallel Earth encountered by Raditz and Trunks 347. Later, Cold and Cooler appear among enemies returning from the afterlife. Cold flees when Goku overwhelms Cooler, but Vegeta intercepts and injures him; Gohan then defeats him in his Mystic State. Cold is subsequently reported back in the afterlife 366 367 379.

King Cold is colossal in his suppressed form, which Raditz compares to Frieza’s second form. His final form is smaller and closely resembles Frieza’s final form, though with a different facial structure and more wrinkles 115 139 140 147.

His confidence in his power masks a lack of recent fighting experience. Cold uses a threat to the planet to buy time for transformation and later holds Vegeta hostage, but his direct attacks and poor stamina management leave openings for Raditz. During the afterlife incursion, he abandons Cooler to save himself 140 147 148 367.
