Background

Liber was a modern wage worker in his previous life. After worsening workloads and reduced pay drove him to quit, he used his savings to travel; he was subsequently reincarnated into a world of gods, Familias, and the Dungeon. 4

In his new life, Liber was raised in a small town by his grandmother. His adventurer father had died during a quest, while his mother died shortly after giving birth to him. His grandmother opposed his ambition to become an adventurer, having already lost both her son and daughter-in-law to that life. 4

He trained in swordsmanship, learned to butcher prey from local hunters, and initially planned to leave for Orario at sixteen. After his grandmother died when he was thirteen, she left him his father’s Grimoire of Enlightenment; Liber sold what remained of her property for travel funds and departed for Orario at fourteen. 4

After a month and a half of travel, he reached Orario and sought admission to the Loki Familia. Loki accepted him without a test, then concealed his unusually gifted Falna from outsiders. 1 3

Personality

Liber is composed, courteous, and unusually self-reliant for his age. He values preparation, understands the danger of the Dungeon, and initially prefers solo adventuring because he believes life-or-death decisions should be handled through personal readiness. 7 10 15

His restraint conflicts with a powerful desire for battle and strength. Combat leaves him mentally calm but exhilarated, and he repeatedly pushes himself toward tougher opponents in pursuit of growth; nevertheless, he recognizes when caution and pacing are necessary. 9 13 30 58

He is patient with weaker or less confident companions. Rather than faulting Lefiya for freezing during combat, he reassures her, protects her casting time, and places trust in her magic when the situation becomes critical. 20 23 26

Abilities & Skills

Falna Skills

[Superimposed Fantasy] greatly increases the effectiveness of training related to the Magic attribute; its effect grows stronger with Liber’s belief in magic-related matters. 3

  • Enables unusually rapid Magic growth during active magical combat. 15
  • Synergizes with his flexible, magic-assisted sword style. 15
  • Its bonus is specifically centered on Magic rather than his physical attributes. 11

[Egoistic Egalitarianism] prevents Liber’s basic abilities from advancing unevenly. Excess proficiency from a higher-ranked ability is redistributed to lower-ranked abilities until their ranks match. 3

  • Prevents him from developing a major weakness among Strength, Endurance, Dexterity, Agility, and Magic. 3
  • Converts his exceptional Magic growth into balanced overall development. 15
  • Can slow advancement if his overall growth is insufficient to keep every stat aligned. 3

Levitation

[Levitation] is a chantless spell that makes targets weightless and permits Liber to manipulate them remotely. 3 7

  • Makes oversized weapons, including his greatsword, practical to wield and launch. 8 9
  • Allows him to suspend, steer, spin, and recall weapons during combat. 9 27
  • Can be cast on himself for flight, allowing rapid escapes and aerial movement. 5 26
  • Continuous control consumes mana, and high-output multi-weapon manipulation can exhaust him rapidly. 5 58

Magic Space

[Magic Space] creates a portable storage dimension that permanently expands when Liber expends mana. 5

  • Stores weapons, loot, party supplies, and even Lefiya’s oversized backpack without adding carrying weight. 10 18
  • Allows him to sense, retrieve, and launch stored objects as projectiles. 10 20
  • Can form multiple entry and exit points wherever he can observe externally, enabling remote sword strikes through aligned portals. 32
  • Its capacity began at approximately backpack size and required repeated mana expenditure to enlarge. 5

Swordsmanship and Magic-Swordsman Combat

Liber combines close-quarters swordplay with remotely controlled weapons and spatial attacks, identifying this approach as the magic-swordsman style. 12 15

  • Received direct combat instruction from Ais Wallenstein. 12
  • Uses a greatsword for heavy offense or defense while a broadsword attacks independently. 13 23
  • Developed unpredictable sword-disappearance tactics that defeated Ais twice in sparring. 31
  • Uses weapon barrages and rotating blades to overwhelm groups or exploit openings. 20 27 58

Nen and Aura

During his later time in the Hunter world, Liber learns and applies Nen principles alongside his pre-existing abilities. 101 129

  • Uses Ren to reinforce attacks, defeating the Nen user Boyka with a single punch. 101
  • Employs flight, airflow manipulation, and object-disappearance techniques against Hisoka. 129
  • Possesses exceptional aura reserves and physical strength, though Hisoka identifies his aura control as comparatively underdeveloped. 129

Star-Field Phenomenon

Liber carries an unexplained sea of stars in his mind. Its lights increase after contact with major figures, though its purpose remains unknown to him. 4 8 11

  • Began with forty-one visible stars; joining the Loki Familia increased the total to forty-six. 4
  • Reached eighty flickering points after the expedition, causing Liber growing anxiety over a possible future change. 89
  • Reacted strongly when he encountered a white-haired boy who called him “Mr. Bell.” 89

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Greatsword — A 1.6-meter blade Liber uses through Levitation; functions as both a melee weapon and remotely controlled projectile. 8 9
  • Broadsword — His original primary sword for close combat and spatial deployment; one broadsword shattered while he was spinning it against a Killer Ant. 8 27
  • Forbidden Sword — A later sword with an acceleration capability. Liber used it to defeat a regenerating Lizardman, but collapsed from mana exhaustion afterward. 58
  • Grimoire of Enlightenment — Gem-encrusted grimoire left by Liber’s father and entrusted to him by his grandmother; using it awakened [Magic Space]. 4 5
  • Light leather armor — Reinforced tunic, chest plating, leather lower-body protection, tassets, and woven gloves selected for mobility. 8
  • Salamander Wool — Fire-spirit-made protective clothing with resistance to flame, heat, and cold. 56

Relationships

  • Loki — His goddess and mentor. She accepted him into the Loki Familia, locked his Falna to protect its secrecy, and guided his level-up decisions. 1 3 60
  • Lefiya Viridis — Dungeon partner and close companion. Liber serves as the vanguard while Lefiya provides magical fire support; he actively helps her overcome her fear of casting under pressure. 19 20 23
  • Ais Wallenstein — Combat instructor and sparring rival. Ais volunteered to train him, and their repeated matches fuel her determination to improve. 11 12 31 66
  • Finn Deimne — Loki Familia captain who recognizes Liber’s potential, provides his newcomer subsidy, and urges him to value teamwork and safety. 7 50 67
  • Bete Loga — Initially dismissive of Liber, but later fights alongside him against Allen and develops respect for his growth. 7 41 42 51
  • Liber’s grandmother — His guardian and sole family in his second life. Though fearful of the adventurer’s life, she ultimately gave him his father’s Grimoire of Enlightenment before her death. 4
  • Gon Freecss, Kurapika, Leorio, and Killua Zoldyck — Fellow Hunter Exam participants with whom Liber travels through the exam’s later stages. 105 121 135
  • Hisoka — A hostile Hunter Exam rival. Hisoka probes Liber’s abilities and seeks battle with him, while Liber openly finds Hisoka’s interest unsettling and repulsive. 129 143

Trivia

  • Liber lied on his Heavens Arena registration form, claiming ten years of fighting experience so that he would be matched against stronger opponents. 96
  • His first Guild registration attracted immediate attention because a fourteen-year-old newcomer affiliated with the Loki Familia was considered highly unusual. 8
  • He is interested in attractive women despite his generally calm and goal-focused demeanor. 66 67
