Background / History

The Chen Clan is a renowned cultivation family operating under the Taixu Sword Sect. It owns all of Chusheng Market and is said to possess a Foundation Establishment Ancestor, with rumors of a False Core expert guarding the clan. 1

Thirty years before the story, the clan seized Refining Lake and converted its natural fire vein into an artifact-refining resource. Discarded refining material accumulates on islands within the lake, while low-paid island guards sort and recycle the scraps for the clan's refiners. 1

Chen Qiaoqian initially oversees Refining Lake and organizes a lakebed-clearing operation, temporarily issuing Water-Avoiding Beads and promising a Foundation-Condensing Pill to the first worker to finish. 3 After she returns to the Jade Void Sword Sect, Chen Tong becomes steward of Refining Lake. He expands recycling output through a “more work, more reward” policy while punishing cultivators to establish authority. 8 9

A dispute over Flame Heart Island exposes competing interests within the clan's refining lineage. Chen Yuanya and Chen Yuliang initially use Shen Yue as a third competitor so Chen Quan and Gao Qin will not have to directly contest the island against each other. 21 22 Shen Yue instead wins by forging three artifacts that combine into the Three Talents Flame Array, and the clan formally grants him Flame Heart Island. 22 23
