Background

Bulma first meets Vegeta at age four when he arrives at Capsule Corp with a pirate treasure chest containing jewelry worth “a few trillion.” Delighted by the treasure, she mistakes it for bride price and declares that he has come to marry her, largely to avoid attending kindergarten. 12

She remains attached to the idea of their relationship even as a child, referring to Vegeta as her husband when Tights and Jaco question her. When her parents are poisoned after drinking from Vegeta's flask of Ultra Divine Water, Bulma is distraught at the prospect of losing both them and Vegeta. She also offers to try repairing Jaco's communicator despite admitting that she has not yet learned how. 17 18

After Vegeta leaves Earth for training, Bulma waits for his promised return until she turns sixteen. Unable to locate him herself, she begins collecting Dragon Balls and travels with Goku in the hope of using Shenron to find Vegeta. 55 56

Bulma is outspoken, impulsive, and strongly motivated by material comforts in her childhood; she immediately dives into Vegeta's treasure chest and accepts the idea of marrying him to escape kindergarten. 12
