Background

Ye Chen, a Dragon Ball fan, transmigrated into the body of five-year-old Vegeta in Age 737 on Planet Vegeta. He immediately accepted the identity and resolved to become the universe’s strongest Saiyan, regarding Son Goku as a future rival rather than the protagonist of his own story 1.

Aware that Frieza would destroy Planet Vegeta and that Beerus was ultimately responsible, Vegeta chose not to attempt a rescue. He abandoned the planet with Nappa, Raditz, and other Saiyan youths, then separated from them to travel to Earth for the Dragon Balls 1 2.

On Earth, Vegeta wished for immortality and exploited Ultra Divine Water to unlock his potential. His accelerated growth created a need for ki control, leading him to seek instruction from Master Roshi; he mastered total aura suppression only minutes after receiving Roshi’s explanation 14 15 21.

Rumsshi and Kusu later kept Vegeta in Universe 10 rather than return him to Champa. Under their guidance, he learned the foundations of Angel Power, Ultra Instinct, Destruction, and divine combat, while repeatedly using extreme injury-and-recovery training to raise his power 28 32 33 36.

Appearance

In his base form, Vegeta remains unusually small and retains much of his five-year-old appearance even into adulthood. His habitual pose is standing with both hands in his pockets, an affectation he retains even in high-level battles 1 45 194 326.

  • Possesses a Saiyan tail 21.
  • Barely changed physically during nine years of divine training and still appeared childlike at age 20 36 194.
  • His Super Saiyan 4 form grants him increased height, red fur, red pupils, and a red tail 68.
  • Uses Super Saiyan 4 in part because its taller appearance better suits him than his base form 211.
  • Alters his appearance, clothing, voice, and energy signature when operating under the identity of “Tarble” 76 82.

Personality

Vegeta is intensely ambitious, pragmatic, and self-assured. His first major decision as Ye Chen’s reincarnation was to abandon Planet Vegeta rather than waste time trying to oppose Frieza and Beerus with insufficient power. He consistently prioritizes long-term strength, survival, and preparation over sentimentality 1 2.

He thrives against stronger opponents and treats pain as a tool for improvement. Rumsshi’s beatings fail to intimidate him because Vegeta considers them minor compared with the agony of Ultra Divine Water; he becomes more excited when a battle places him at a disadvantage 33 225.

Despite his arrogance, Vegeta actively seeks instruction when he recognizes a weakness. He learned ki control from Master Roshi, trained under Rumsshi and Kusu, and later returned to Roshi to cultivate his state of mind rather than merely raise his physical power 20 21 36 164.

His increasing strength is accompanied by strategic and administrative aptitude. He develops universes, delegates divine offices to trusted subordinates, and takes on both creation and destruction duties when necessary 194 237 259.

Abilities & Skills

Saiyan physiology and transformations

Vegeta possesses exceptional Saiyan potential and turns severe combat damage into growth through recovery. He has mastered a broad sequence of Super Saiyan transformations, including Super Saiyan 4 and divine composite forms 33 49 68 225.

  • Uses near-death recovery, Senzu Beans, and Ultra Divine Water to force repeated breakthroughs 33 36.
  • Can layer Super Saiyan 4 with Super Saiyan God or Super Saiyan Blue 178 225.
  • Can combine transformations with divine techniques, such as Super Saiyan 3 with Ultra Ego 135.
  • Ultra Divine Water eventually ceased to provide further benefit after he reached its limit 95.

Ki control and martial arts

Vegeta learned to conceal and regulate his enormous energy under Master Roshi. He internalized his entire aura within minutes and later trained his mind through Roshi’s traditional exercises 21 164.

  • Fully suppresses his ki to avoid wasting energy or accidentally damaging Earth 20 21.
  • Uses invisible energy with enough control to plow a vast wasteland instantaneously 164.
  • Employs the Afterimage Technique while fighting the Grand Minister 326.
  • Displays extreme speed, completing Roshi’s running course in under 0.1 seconds 143.

Angel Power and Ultra Instinct

Vegeta follows the path of Angel Power rather than relying on a distinct silver-haired form. This allows him to use Ultra Instinct in base form and apply Angel Power offensively, defensively, and for healing 61 96.

  • Uses Ultra Instinct to evade attacks automatically, leaving opponents such as Reg unable to hit him 96.
  • Healed Master Roshi with Angelic Power 61.
  • Angel Power can be adapted into healing, repair, elemental effects, offense, and defense 96.
  • Instantly mastered Gowasu’s crystal-ball storage mantra through his understanding of divine power 78.
  • Replicated Bulma’s modified pepper-spray device with Angel Power 235.

Destruction Energy and Ultra Ego

Vegeta learned the God of Destruction Technique from Rumsshi and can wield Destruction Energy despite later serving as a Supreme Kai. His Ultra Ego complements his Angelic abilities rather than replacing them 36 135 226.

  • Uses Hakai to erase targets, including an unstable red planet 36.
  • Fires concentrated Destruction Energy in combat 226.
  • Developed a God of Destruction form and later accessed Ultra Ego through Super Saiyan 3 135 177.
  • Combines Ultra Ego with Ultra Instinct to form Dual Ego 181 226.

Instant Transmission and divine arts

Vegeta initially struggled to learn Instant Transmission, partly because he preferred being carried by Kusu. He later became highly proficient and uses it for interplanetary and interuniversal travel 78 153 235.

  • Gathered all seven Dragon Balls in less than half an hour by pairing Instant Transmission with the Dragon Radar 235.
  • Can transport multiple people across worlds, including sending Earth’s fighters to Dragon Ball Planet 273.
  • Uses a crystal ball for remote observation after mastering its storage technique 78 264.

Culinary skills

Vegeta uses food as diplomacy with divine beings. His fries, milk tea, and canned yellow peaches earned Rumsshi and Kusu’s favor and helped sustain his relationship with them 28 32 36.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Senzu Beans — Used to restore stamina after Rumsshi’s training and after Dual Ego caused his body to explode 33 181.

Relationships

  • Bulma — Wife and closest Earth-based companion. Vegeta protects her during dangerous battles, proposes marriage after she creates his sealing device, and later lives with her as her husband 233 235 261.
  • Rumsshi — God of Destruction mentor, rival, and political ally. Rumsshi trained Vegeta in Destruction and later entrusted him with major divine responsibilities 33 36 194.
  • Kusu — Angelic mentor and ally who trained Vegeta in Angel Power and Ultra Instinct. Vegeta is unusually casual around her and relies on her assistance 36 78 96.
  • Master Roshi — Martial-arts teacher and later friend. Roshi taught Vegeta ki control and helped him recognize the need for inner cultivation 21 164 166.
  • Son Goku — Rival, training partner, and fellow Saiyan. Vegeta wants Goku to grow stronger and spends years training with him 1 194 264.
  • Reg — Vegeta’s older brother. Their relationship is strained by Reg’s resentment, though Reg later resolves his grudge against King Vegeta and becomes one of Vegeta’s subordinates 105 235.
  • Tarble — Younger brother. Vegeta tries to persuade Tarble to leave his home planet but respects his decision to remain there 105.
  • Trunks — Vegeta’s biological son with Bulma; Vegeta also mentors an alternate-timeline Trunks and arranges his training under Rumsshi 296 297 301.
  • Broly — Subordinate entrusted with the position of Universe 11’s God of Destruction 235 237.
