Background / History

Xie Xie comes from a wealthy family and was considered the most gifted descendant of his generation in the Xie family. Accustomed to praise since childhood, he initially found it especially difficult to accept being dismissed by a weaker-ranked peer 16 269.

Xie Xie was among the students with the highest soul power in his class and held strong confidence in his own combat ability. His twin martial souls gave him exceptional offense and agility compared with peers of his age. When Zhong Shenxiu met his challenge with a cold, predatory appraisal, Xie Xie felt both pressure and irritation at being underestimated 15.

During their first spar, the Level 18 Xie Xie was decisively defeated by the Level 17 Zhong Shenxiu. His strongest first soul skill, Twin Dragon Blade, was broken through, and Zhong Shenxiu's Sky Light Dragon Spear left him unable to accept the difference between their strengths 16.

He joined Tang Wulin, Gu Yue, and Zhong Shenxiu as part of Zero Class. Early on, Zhong Shenxiu defeated Tang Wulin, Xie Xie, and Gu Yue together in less than five seconds, forcing Xie Xie to recognize the enormous disparity between their strengths 27. He later watched Zhong Shenxiu overwhelm Class Four and was relieved that Zhong Shenxiu was on his own side 39.

Although he trained intensively for the Class Promotion Tournament, Xie Xie was frustrated when Zhong Shenxiu resolved successive matches without giving him an opportunity to use his martial souls. Tang Wulin, who had likewise been unable to contribute, reassured him that later matches would provide more opportunities 49.

Wu Zhangkong subsequently emphasized that Xie Xie and several of his classmates lacked basic combat ability without their martial souls. Xie Xie dreaded the demanding daily combat lessons, while repeated defeats in the Spirit Ascension Platform reinforced his fear of Zhong Shenxiu's combat prowess 78 81 99.

During the Hall of Heroes assessment, Xie Xie struggled against his projection and was left demoralized by the result. Nevertheless, he showed initiative when Wu Zhangkong mentioned the Tang Sect-related organization, eagerly asking about it and expressing interest in joining 129 132. His opponent was identified as a projection of Demon Rabbit Douluo Jiang Nannan. When offered the opportunity to join the Tang Sect, he accepted without first consulting his family, confidently stating that he could persuade them; his status as a Tang Sect disciple was later confirmed 133 260.

During continued Zero Class training at Eastsea Academy, Xie Xie's teasing often caused trouble. Gu Yue retaliated against one disrespectful remark by burning him with Fire Dance Whirlwind; afterward, he warned Xu Xiaoyan not to provoke her 158. His lingering fear and inner conflict around Gu Yue remained apparent during Xu Xiaoyan's nighttime martial soul demonstration 164.

After Wu Zhangkong repeatedly disarmed him in training, Xie Xie asked Zhong Shenxiu for advice on weapon use. Zhong Shenxiu's demonstration helped him understand that mastery depended on relentless practice of fundamentals rather than a special trick 162 163. His subsequent improvement in teamwork helped Zero Class force Zhong Shenxiu to exceed his self-imposed two-ring power limit during a training match. Although this was not an outright victory, Xie Xie celebrated it as a major breakthrough 188 189.

At the Skysea Alliance Grand Competition, Xie Xie reached the top eight in the individual competition. His unpredictable twin-dagger techniques could not overcome the strength gap against stronger opponents 218.

Following the three-year interval, Xie Xie reunited with Zero Class for special training against Zhong Shuiping, the Aquarius Star Dragon acting as Zhong Shenxiu's Guardian. Although Zhong Shuiping easily overpowered and threw him from the fight, Xie Xie continued developing his coordination with the team and refining the use of his twin daggers 253 254. In a later exchange, Aquarius seized his wrist and forced him to drop the Shadow Dragon Dagger before flinging him aside as Gu Yue's fire dragon attacked 255.

Xie Xie was enthusiastic about applying to Shrek Academy and confidently expected his talent to secure admission 261 262. Upon reaching Shrek City, he shared a hotel room with Tang Wulin. He became anxious when Tang Wulin's deep meditation threatened to prevent him from taking the entrance examination, and later offered him an egg tart after the examination was postponed 269 279 281.

During the entrance assessment, the pressure from the Di Tian mural left Xie Xie trembling, and Zhong Shenxiu helped steady him 284. He subsequently completed the guillotine trial with the group, which set a ten-second record and earned perfect scores. Afterward, his attempt to make Gu Yue and Xu Xiaoyan stop clinging to Zhong Shenxiu earned him a combined Ice Wheel and Fire Dance Whirlwind punishment 290.

Xie Xie enrolled at Shrek Academy with the other four members of Zero Class. Despite the group's payment of tuition, Teacher Shi required them to retain their work-study obligations and assigned them to clean Spirit Ice Plaza 304. Xie Xie recognized the treatment as deliberate harassment, though he later became increasingly inclined to endure the academy's pressure 306 323.

During a journey through Mistwave City, Tang Wulin and Xie Xie arranged sparring matches between six Shrek students and a local academy's teachers, winning five of the six matches. Both objected to Yang Nianxia's disdain for the hosts and warned against coercing others into accepting challenges. Following Zhong Shenxiu's departure from Shrek Academy, they had become increasingly troubled by the academy's arrogance, disregard for Federation law, and treatment of other Soul Masters 420.

During an attack by Black Hand operatives, Xie Xie attempted to repel the assailants with separate Light Dragon Blade and Shadow Dragon Blade attacks. Their smoke-like bodies allowed the strikes to pass through harmlessly, leaving him to rely on his agility to evade while the attackers increasingly pressured him 421. The assault stopped after Tang Wulin identified both of them as Zhong Shenxiu's classmates and friends 422.

While the group sheltered in a Black Hand Clan stronghold, Xie Xie tried to ingratiate himself with Psychedelic Black Hand, discussing Tang Wulin's appetite and strength 463.

When Tang Wulin learned that the power aiding his growth may have been part of a larger scheme, Xie Xie was initially stunned by the implication that his friend's apparent fortune had instead made him a pawn in another party's plan 466.

Later, Xie Xie provided Tang Wulin with crucial emotional support when Tang feared losing the Golden Dragon King Bloodline and becoming weak again. Xie Xie stressed that Tang Wulin's resilience, work ethic, and willingness to protect others mattered more than his bloodline or martial soul, helping him recommit to cultivating through his own efforts 479. He promised to accompany Tang Wulin in rebuilding his strength, help when forging became exhausting, and seek guidance from Zhong Shenxiu rather than rely on the troublesome bloodline 479 514.

Personality

Xie Xie is confident, playful, and quick with a joke. He banters freely with Tang Wulin, including teasing him into a chase and engaging in physical comedy with him on a bus 98 136.

Despite an outwardly cold and proud manner, he is lively and restless. His early competitiveness was reinforced by his family's praise and his exceptional standing among his peers 16 33.

His bravado is frequently undercut by self-preservation. He openly described the bullying he endured from Gu Yue and jokingly framed his decision to curry favor with her as “seeking a better offer” after Tang Wulin supposedly abandoned him 162. When Gu Yue ordered him to interrupt Zhong Shenxiu and Ye Xinglan, he complied reluctantly despite understanding the danger 209.

He enjoys gossip and observing romantic tensions, particularly those surrounding Zhong Shenxiu. He watched Gu Yue and Xu Xiaoyan's rivalry from a safe distance and repeatedly lingered over interactions involving Ye Xinglan, even when Tang Wulin urged him to leave 192 201 203.

He can also be generous and socially minded: after the group repaired their work-study dormitory, he offered to cover a celebratory dinner and shopping trip 315. Under sustained pressure from their homeroom teacher, however, he showed frustration, helplessness, and a more defeatist attitude 323.

His willingness to respect other Soul Masters contrasts with the arrogance he later observed among some Shrek students. He supported courteous negotiation with a lesser-known academy rather than treating Shrek's status as permission to force challenges upon its staff 420.

Despite his immaturity and tendency to act opportunistically, Xie Xie can be sincere and perceptive regarding his friends. He values Tang Wulin not for his unusual bloodline, but for his perseverance, selflessness, and willingness to keep fighting after hardship. Even while offering serious encouragement, he retained his mischievous nature by turning his requested favor into a joke about seeing Tang Wulin in women's clothing 479.

His social resilience is unusually high. After Psychedelic Black Hand coldly dismissed his attempt at conversation, Xie Xie was neither embarrassed nor deterred, instead responding with an even more ingratiating smile and moving closer 512.

Twin Martial Souls

Xie Xie possesses the Light Dragon Dagger and Dark Dragon Dagger, a rare pair of martial souls. The latter is also referred to as the Shadow Dragon Dagger in later accounts 132 188.

He admitted that his initial rivalry stemmed from wanting to defeat a Blue Silver Grass user with inexplicably powerful strength, but came to regard Tang Wulin as a brother. • Gu Yue — Teammate whom Xie Xie fears due to her overwhelming strength and harsh retaliation. He has repeatedly fawned over her or followed her demands to avoid provoking her 158 162 209.
