Background / History
Qian Daoliu is Spirit Hall's Great Consecrator, presiding over the Consecration Hall alongside Golden Crocodile Douluo. He is a ninety-ninth-rank Limit Douluo whose presence alone commands silence among the other consecrators. He is also Qian Renxue's grandfather and is described as someone willing to risk everything for her. 2 3 67
After Qian Renxue brings Ji Ye to the Consecration Hall on suspicion of robbing Qian Xunji's tomb, Qian Daoliu personally examines Ji Ye's unprecedented spirit-ring configuration. Discovering that Ji Ye has not received a divine inheritance, he recognizes the boy's talent as innate. 3 4
He subjects Ji Ye to escalating Soul Power pressure up to the Soul Saint level. Impressed that the twelve-year-old withstands it, Qian Daoliu offers him a place in Spirit Hall—while making refusal impossible by threatening execution for trespassing in forbidden grounds. Ji Ye accepts and becomes part of the Consecration Hall. 4
Qian Daoliu later supports Ji Ye's development, permitting him to handle Tang San and Xiao Wu independently, questioning him about the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, appointing him Holy Son, and granting access to the Library Pavilion. 16 41 42 43
When Ji Ye returns after two years away, Qian Daoliu prioritizes his safety over punishment and permits a spar with Demon Subduing Douluo to assess his growth. He is profoundly shaken upon seeing Ji Ye's eight hundred-thousand-year soul rings and learning that Ji Ye has gained a deity's inheritance. 61 62
During Ji Ye's confrontation with Bibi Dong, Qian Daoliu intervenes to halt their battle. Accepting Bibi Dong's compelled claim that she wishes to relinquish the papacy, he publicly declares Ji Ye the new Pope of Spirit Hall. 67 68
Appearance
Qian Daoliu is an elderly yet imposing man with white hair and white robes. Though his face is refined and shows little sign of age, he carries a sacred, commanding presence.
- Slender build and refined features; compared to a peerless sword hidden in its scabbard. 3
- Usually wears white robes. 3 4 61
- Appears in a simple golden robe when intervening between Ji Ye and Bibi Dong. 67
- Has white beard and hair, but retains a youthful-looking face. 67
Personality
Qian Daoliu is authoritative, perceptive, and highly protective of Spirit Hall's interests. He recognizes exceptional talent immediately and is prepared to use coercion to ensure that such talent remains within Spirit Hall. His abrupt shift from warmly praising Ji Ye to threatening him demonstrates a pragmatic and manipulative streak. 4
He nevertheless shows genuine concern for Ji Ye's safety and growth. He supports Ji Ye's independence, grants him institutional status and resources, and receives him warmly after his two-year disappearance. 16 42 44 61
His decisions are shaped by the Qian family's authority over Spirit Hall. When Bibi Dong objects to Ji Ye's appointment as Holy Son, Qian Daoliu states that Spirit Hall belongs to the Qian family while he lives and threatens to remove her from office. 44
