Background / History

Zi Yan originally wandered alone through the Black Abyss mountain range as an unnamed young Ancient Void Dragon. Other magical beasts hunted and bullied her for her unusual dragon body, leaving her unable to join any group or live safely. Her greatest wish was to transform into a normal-looking creature and stop fleeing from others. 75

She met Xiao Qing while he possessed a Transformation Grass. Rather than seize it, he offered to refine it into a Humanoid Transformation Pill in exchange for a drop of her essence blood. Zi Yan accepted because he treated the exchange fairly and showed no malice. 75

After taking the pill, she transformed into a five- or six-year-old human girl. Xiao Qing gave her the name “Zi Yan,” which she accepted enthusiastically; before this, others had only called her “little thing.” 76 77

Zi Yan travelled with Xiao Qing, using her treasure-seeking instinct to locate rare herbs, hidden valuables, and magical-beast remains. Her Ancient Void Dragon identity was eventually recognized by members of East Dragon Island, who identified her as the lost imperial bloodline and rightful Dragon Emperor. 77 82 116 175
