Background / History

Three hundred years before the main events, Zhao Xuan predicted that Haotian would complain to Zixiao Palace, the Dao Ancestor would summon the Sages, and the Investiture of the Gods List would manifest to draw disciples of the three sects into tribulation 1.

Jie Sect disciples view the List as a threat rather than an honor: once a true spirit enters it, the person is driven by the Heavenly Court, loses freedom over life and death, and has their Great Dao severed 1.

Zhao Xuan argues early that the List is not a fair distribution of divine appointments, but a political mechanism that leaves the Jie Sect to pay the cost while the Human Sect, Chan Sect, and Western Sect avoid losses 2 3.
