Jie Sect Withdrawal

The Jie Sect withdraws from managing the Primordial World's affairs after Zhao Xuan argues that its teachings, loyalty, and willingness to resolve disorder have been turned into liabilities. Its new principle is that whoever creates a problem, karma, or obligation must bear it themselves. 4 6

A Supreme Clarity Dharma Decree recalls Jie Sect disciples from Heavenly Court offices, water-vein management, patrols, demon suppression, and other assignments to Golden Turtle Island for seclusion. 7 8

The withdrawal immediately exposes simultaneous failures across the world: the East Sea Sea Eye surges, star nodes drift, evil cultivators act freely, water veins destabilize, and overseas disputes turn deadly. 10 21

The Third Sea Eye Precedent

• Qingxiaozi, an early Golden Immortal and Jie Sect peripheral disciple, guarded the Third Sea Eye for two thousand years despite accumulating hidden injuries. 11
• After leaving in accordance with the recall decree, he is blamed by the Heavenly Court's Water Department when officials mishandle the formation he maintained. 11

Accountability Mechanisms

Three Accountability Steles

Zhao Xuan establishes three steles outside Golden Turtle Island before agreeing to intervene in outside disasters. Supplicants and responsible officials must record the following before the Jie Sect acts: 22 23

2. Who was supposed to manage it?
3. Who will bear the merit, karma, and cost after the Jie Sect intervenes?

The Southern Wilderness inscriptions become a visible karmic record, revealing that its miasma had been reported before erupting and that the Heavenly Court had directed its victims to seek Jie Sect aid themselves. 23

The steles receive merit after the facts are recorded, bypassing the Heavenly Court and its officials. 23 24

Old Merit Karma

When the Heavenly Court attempts to remove the steles, a thread of Old Merit Karma is exposed between the Jie Sect and the Heavenly Court. It encompasses the Jie Sect's past work involving sea eyes, stars, human tribes, and cultivator disputes. 24

Zhao Xuan identifies this karma as a hidden shackle: deeds that are ordinarily meritorious make Jie Sect disciples easier to draw onto the Investiture of the Gods List. Master Tongtian severs the thread, forcing the List's shadow to appear. 24

Investiture of the Gods Accountability Ledger

The Ledger publicly challenges the List's stated charges against the Jie Sect—deep involvement in worldly affairs, heavy killing karma, and excessive, heterogeneous numbers—by recording who requested, benefited from, or failed to share responsibility for those actions. 27 28 29

Manifestation of the Investiture of the Gods List

After Tongtian severs Old Merit Karma, the Investiture of the Gods List manifests prematurely with “Jie Sect” at its head. 24 25

The List's calamity energy backflows onto core Jie Sect disciples, showing them visions of their future outcomes and confirming that the sect is targeted collectively. 26

When pressed to justify its judgment, the List states that the Jie Sect has many disciples, is deeply involved in worldly affairs, bears heavy killing karma, and must be pruned because its members are numerous and heterogeneous. 27 28

The Jie Sect answers these claims through the steles and Ledger with the declaration:

Past Merits Are Not Crimes.
Shangqing Is Innocent. 28 29

The Dao Ancestor eventually withdraws the List, calling its manifestation a rehearsal rather than the final calamity. The Ledger remains open, leaving the Primordial World's account of benefit, responsibility, and cost unresolved. 32
