Background / History

Golden Turtle Island is located in the East Sea and serves as the home of Biyou Palace, the central seat of Master Tongtian’s Jie Sect 1. After the Three Pure Ones separated, Tongtian traveled east to establish the Jie Sect there, with Zhao Xuan following him from the earlier Shangqing lineage on Kunlun Mountain 1.

At the beginning of the Investiture of the Gods crisis, Jie Sect core disciples gather at Biyou Palace on Golden Turtle Island after news spreads that Haotian, Taiqing, Yuanshi, and the Western Sect Saints have gone to Zixiao Palace 1. Three Steles and Karmic Records

Heavenly Court Accountability

The island serves as the venue where Zhao Xuan forces the Heavenly Court to confront the Qingxiaozi case. Evidence is displayed outside Golden Turtle Island, including formation maps, receipt seals, spiritual tide records, and injury imprints proving Qingxiaozi’s innocence and service at the Third Sea Eye 12 13.

Qingxiaozi also recovers from his accumulated injuries on the island while Zhao Xuan refuses demands for his immediate return to the Sea Eye 15. Three Steles

After the Heavenly Court redirects desperate living beings to beg the Jie Sect directly, Zhao Xuan raises three steles outside Golden Turtle Island as a procedural barrier against vague appeals and hidden karmic traps 22. The steles later reveal the Old Merit Karma tying the Jie Sect’s past labor to the Heavenly Court and the Investiture of the Gods List 24.

The Southern Wilderness case demonstrates that disasters already reported to the Heavenly Court cannot simply be recast as the Jie Sect’s obligation. Investiture Challenge

The island’s unanimous refusal strengthens the Jie Sect’s fortune and causes its names to fade from the list. The inscription naming the Ten Thousand Immortals shatters, leaving corresponding divine offices unfilled and forcing Hongjun to reopen deliberations 113.

Internal Purge

After Zhao Xuan realizes outsiders may use individual disciples’ crimes to condemn the entire sect, Golden Turtle Island is closed for internal investigation 33. The island becomes the base for clearing hidden faults within the Jie Sect before the Heavenly Court, Chan Sect, or Western Sect can weaponize them 33 34.

Ma Yuan is brought before Biyou Palace with several Outer Sect followers. Evidence records his destruction of a temple, seizure of a clan’s spiritual materials, and use of Jie Sect status to intimidate others. His claim that these actions enhanced sect prestige and his appeal to collective immunity fail to shake Zhao Xuan’s authority 34.

Chang’er Dingguang Xian’s case further exposes the danger of relying on reputation: despite having been praised by Tongtian and respected by many disciples, he admits to seizing spirit springs and oppressing independent cultivators 36. Clear Gate Investigation and Preliminary Registers

Zhao Xuan orders the Outer Sect to surrender outside correspondence, invitations, and gifts within three days. The Clear Gate Register distinguishes voluntary disclosure from established guilt, allowing ordinary exchanges while investigating attempts to purchase intelligence, influence, or disciples’ lives 41. Past merit records are shown to have been used to identify suitable future gods 43. Zhao Gongming’s appearance under the Wealth Department reveals that the scheme extends beyond the Water Department to an All-Department Preliminary Register 45.

Zhao Xuan orders the documents sealed, keeps Zhao Gongming and the Three Xiao Sisters on the island, and collects old orders and receipts into the Jie Sect Old Merit Ledger. The inquiry then turns outward with the demand to identify who entered the names 45 46. On the island, the Clear Gate Register also exposes a phantom Investiture Table assigning benefits to the major factions while making the Jie Sect pay with lives; its mortal-world ends are identified as Chaoge and Xiqi 59.

Ten Thousand Immortals’ Solidarity

When the damaged Investiture List threatens to draw all those protecting Zhao Xuan into the tribulation, he opens a path and allows disciples to withdraw freely. Outer Sect disciples instead choose to remain, with Lu Qing and veterans of difficult service standing together despite their fears 72.

Duobao acts as their fallback, while Jinling, Zhao Gongming, and the Three Xiao Sisters provide protection. Antarctic Immortal Confrontation

The Antarctic Immortal arrives outside the Three Steles to discuss the Chaoge–Xiqi relay-station incident. Zhao Xuan receives him outside rather than opening the island’s gate, and rejects attempts to characterize Wen Zhong’s mortal investigation as Jie Sect interference 89.

As reports reveal supernatural attempts to destroy testimony and provoke unrest, Zhao Xuan directs disciples from the island to secure witnesses, intercept communications, and prevent forged military orders from causing escalation 89. The Antarctic Immortal subsequently attacks outside Golden Turtle Island, invoking the Yuqing Dharma Seal, but Duobao defeats and pins him before the steles in view of the East Sea and other powers 91 92.

Yuanshi’s intervention injures Duobao and damages his treasures. Tongtian emerges from Biyou Palace, severs Yuanshi’s conjured hand, pins the Yuqing seal, and asserts jurisdiction because the offense, arrest, and evidence are on Jie Sect territory 92 93. He takes Zhao Xuan, the Antarctic Immortal, the captured witness, and the evidence to Zixiao Palace, leaving the senior disciples to guard Golden Turtle Island 94.

Hongjun detains the Antarctic Immortal and restricts Jade Emptiness’s interference in mortal affairs, but withholds the broader list of participants. On returning to the island, Tongtian preserves the damaged platform’s fissure and restrains disciples from retaliating against Kunlun in violation of the ruling 97 98.

Shi Ji, Biyun, and the Nine Dragon Divine Fire Cover

A bloodied Sky-Shaking Arrow and an urgent report reach Golden Turtle Island, revealing Biyun’s injury and Shi Ji’s entrapment at Chentang Pass. Tongtian authorizes Zhao Xuan to rescue them while forbidding an assault on Qianyuan Mountain 99.

After taking the Nine Dragon Divine Fire Cover from Taiyi, Zhao Xuan brings it, Shi Ji, and Biyun to the Three Steles. He stabilizes Biyun’s fading true spirit with a Shangqing Sword Line and Taiyi’s own fire intent, while Tongtian reinforces the platform with Green Duckweed Sword intent 101 102. Attempts to erase the fire’s connection rebound against Taiyi, and Zhao Xuan refuses to return the cover through Yellow Lotus Boy, demanding Taiyi’s personal attendance 103.

Taiyi comes to the island, followed by Nezha, and must remove the fire bound to Biyun and the traces affecting Nezha’s treasures and Chentang Pass before reclaiming the cover. After revision of the Investiture List, the sect gathers before Biyou Palace to establish practical safeguards. Disciples must report outside orders and register departures, with their destinations, contacts, and reasons for entering the tribulation made clear 123.

Zhao Gongming’s old death-path is broken and his life essence placed under the steles’ protection. The Three Xiao Sisters retain the Nine-Bend Yellow River Formation as a regulated guardian formation, while Wen Zhong proposes a separate register to prevent mortal military orders from sending immortals into death traps 123. Tongtian likewise retains the Ten Thousand Immortal Formation as the sect’s ultimate guardian formation rather than an instrument for fulfilling the old list 124.

• Offenses investigated include:
  • bullying the weak under the Shangqing Orthodoxy,
  • slaughtering living beings and seizing foundations,
  • occupying caves or spiritual veins through Jie Sect prestige,
  • accepting outside benefits and leaking sect information 33.
• Internal punishments distinguish minor offenses from major crimes; grave misuse implicating the Shangqing Orthodoxy can result in abolished cultivation and expulsion 33.
