Background / History

He Yi was once a handsome, charismatic young man and a celebrated young hero of the righteous path. His father, He Yuzhong, sent him to Hundred Flower Grave while he was young; after He Yi became prominent, he relocated his father to a remote mountain village to prevent his family from being implicated in his conflict with the Tianwu Holy Land. 18

A Phoenix Flying Lady became interested in He Yi, leading to an unspecified conflict with the Holy Land. He Yi returned with his face covered in scars, became an elder of Hundred Flower Grave, and acquired the name “Flower Face.” Villagers commonly believed that the Phoenix Flying Lady had toyed with his feelings and scarred him, after which his temperament became unstable and erratic. 18

Hundred Flower Grave later acquired the Withered Glory Scripture from beyond its domain. The sect used Life-Eroding Flowers to bypass the scripture’s dangerous normal cultivation process, binding its members to symbiotic plants and transforming their Internal Force and bodies. Flower Face embraced this power, using it to turn his wood-aspected Internal Force toward withering and death. 7 10 11

His grudge is deeply personal as well as ideological. The scars left by his past conflict with a Phoenix Flying Lady remain a symbol he keeps close, and the Holy Land’s humiliation of the Hundred Flower lineage fuels his determination to prove that its martial arts are not merely “Flowery Fists and Embroidered Legs.” 3 4

Though fanatical, he is not wholly reckless. He postpones a revenge battle against the severely wounded Lu Bai rather than appear to exploit weakness, and instead directs his forces against the Phoenix Flying Ladies—the faction he considers the greater enemy. 45

Conflict with Lu Bai at Hundred Flower Grave

After learning that Lu Bai infiltrated Hundred Flower Grave and sought the Withered Glory Scripture, Flower Face confronts him directly. He demonstrates the Scripture-enhanced Flower Fist and later enters the Deathly Withering State when Lu Bai’s overwhelming physical strength threatens to defeat him. 11 12

Lu Bai escapes by exploiting the disciples’ dependence on their Life-Eroding Flowers: rather than entering the dangerous fields, he runs alongside them, forcing the pursuing symbiotes to stop and guard their own flowers. 12

Death of He Yuzhong

Lu Bai traces Flower Face’s identity to a mountain village and interrogates He Yuzhong. He learns He Yi’s name, history, and connection to a Phoenix Flying Lady before killing his father. 17 18

Lingfeng Tower and the War Against Tianwu Holy Land

Flower Face reappears during the battle around Lingfeng Tower, where he saves a young man from Lu Bai and uses the situation to turn public hostility against his enemy. He publicly brands Lu Bai as “Blood-Stained Heshan” and invokes the crowd’s hatred of Outer Realm Demons. 42 43

When the Phoenix Flying Ladies arrive, Flower Face attempts to hold Lu Bai accountable for deaths connected to Hundred Flower Grave, but Lu Bai counters with Elder Lin’s diary and undermines the accusation.
