Background / History
The deity’s earliest known identities were tied to arcana, mystic arts, and magic. After coming into contact with Change, it developed the doctrine of precepts: that some things must remain immutable while change occurs outside those boundaries. Its mastery of Number Nine, the Number of Precepts, elevated it into a powerful divine power despite never establishing a pantheon. 391 809 815
The God of Precepts used this philosophy to preserve its divine position across hundreds of millions of years. It treated the ultimate end as another form of change and intended for its unchanging precepts to survive into any newborn world. To prevent replacement—a change it considered especially dangerous—it refused subordinate gods and even killed a Mythical Breed that sought to serve it. 815 821 856
More than four years before the Church leadership’s deliberations, the God of Precepts invaded the Abyss and returned gravely damaged. Its ensuing slumber crippled the Church’s access to the Grid and weakened its Saints. During this period, Naimus obtained part of its Divinity and began exploiting the Church’s systems against it. 1 480
The god eventually awakened when Naimus activated the Precept Divinity, ordering the Church to eradicate him and beginning an open divine war. Its conflict with Naimus and the Moon God culminated in the Sacred Wish scheme, its forcible extraction from its divine kingdom, and the destruction of one divine body. 802 820 826 831 855
Divine Philosophy
The God of Precepts interprets the Rule of Change through Precept Dualism: Change and Constancy.
- A precept defines what should remain unchanged; everything beyond it belongs to change. 815
- It can use its own constancy to analyze and encroach upon another god’s changing systems, as it did against the Moon God’s World Domain. 815
- In direct conflict, it can fill a battlefield with precepts drawn from countless worlds; following these rules grants specialized abilities that combine offense, defense, speed, and adaptability. 832
- Its fixation on preserving itself and its established philosophy became a weakness against Naimus’s doctrine of fiction, which could exploit the doctrine’s known limits. 823 833
Abilities & Skills
Change Divinity
The God of Precepts holds the authority associated with Number Nine and uses precepts as its personal framework for regulating change.
- Was regarded as one of the strongest gods because the Rule of Change offers unusually broad applications. 391 912
- Can alter its own identity and history to adapt to an era; it transformed from the Goddess of Magic into the God of Magic to avoid being targeted during an age change. 821
- Its renewed transformation into the Goddess of Precepts restored its sensitivity to change because it was accompanied by a renewal of principles. 913
- Can suppress opponents by restricting their capacity for change, a method later imitated by the Death God. 963
Magic, Mystic Arts, and Spellcasting
As the former God of Magic and mystic arts, the deity possesses Mythic-grade magical technique.
- Defines mystic arts as any method that uses mental power to leverage external forces. 943
- Can cast hundreds or thousands of refined divine spells in rapid succession. 902
- Uses spellcasting skill to multiply divine-power output; a prepared divine spell reached fifty million output. 903
- Its techniques are capable of applying immense output across multiple spells simultaneously through spellcraft and Deflection Force. 904
- Its magical attainments allow it to examine souls and mental fluctuations for impurities or deception. 820
The Grid
The Grid, formerly called the Weave, is the God of Precepts’ greatest constructed system.
- Regulates elemental power, stabilizes the world, and serves as a network for faith. 430
- Enables Saints with permission to generate Holy Power, replenish their expenditure, and form prayer spells. 480
- Was once used by nearly all spellcasters, not only priests, to borrow power for casting. 899
- Secretly connects world possibilities and can function as a net to capture and drain origin from other worlds. 899
- Its disappearance would cause most spellcasters’ casting multipliers to fall sharply. 430
Deflection Force
The God of Precepts is highly compatible with Deflection Force, which bends and rewrites rules rather than merely supplying power.
- Possessed approximately ten portions of Deflection Force, second only to the Sun God among the known powerful divine powers. 912
- Each portion can amplify its power by more than double. 823
- Deflection Force does not deplete permanently, but using it causes exhaustion and requires a recovery period. 894
- The deity conserves it carefully after Naimus exposed the danger of leaving an exploitable gap in its strength. 894
Fate and Historical Possibilities
The God of Precepts can interfere with historical possibilities through its connection to fate and its followers.
- Can alter the circumstances of Saints and people connected to Naimus in order to create historical branches unfavorable to him. 825
- Intended to delay Naimus’s growth by creating a possibility in which Gotthard refused to transfer him to Tail-Wagging Town. 825
- Treats favorable historical possibilities as potential “official history,” which becomes exceptionally difficult for outside forces to rewrite. 825
- Can place limited wagers of divinity essence when a new world possibility opens. 832
Divine Kingdom and Contingencies
The deity’s divine kingdom remained intact even after its divine body was killed.
- Stored reserves exceeding two billion units of divine power. 855
- Retains the God of Precepts’ personal imprint, including possible hidden magical safeguards. 857
- Contains sealed contingencies, including measures that can release history preserved within a precept and form an army of Prayer-Ascendant Angels. 917
- The god’s lack of a pantheon left it without subordinate gods, but it maintained Mythical Breeds, Sky Whales, Saints, and angels as its forces. 805 816 856
Forces
- Church of Precepts — The deity’s primary religious institution and source of faith. Its authority over the Grid weakened severely during the god’s slumber. 480
- Saints of Precepts — The God of Precepts had twelve Saints before the deaths of Saint Vieslav and the Hidden Saint reduced the number to ten. 816
- Prayer-Ascendant Angels — Angelic forces tied to its historical contingencies and battlefield operations. 417 917
- Sky Whales — Deployed nearly two hundred Sky Whales at full force during the opening of the divine war against Naimus. 805
Relationships
- Naimus — Primary enemy and thief of part of the Precept/Change Divinity. Their opposing interpretations of Change escalated into repeated divine wars. 1 802 823 833
- Moon God — Divine-war opponent. The God of Precepts sought to absorb or neutralize the Moon God’s changing World Domain, while the Moon God allied with Naimus against it. 815 816 833
- Holy Son / Xinuo — A Saint recognized for his unusually pure conviction despite openly disdaining the god. The God of Precepts assigned him the Sacred Wish ritual, only for him to become instrumental in its defeat. 820 826 922
- Sun God — A greater strategic threat than Naimus in the God of Precepts’ view. The Sun God intercepted the deity’s attempt to recover divine essence after its defeat. 834 900
- God of Wisdom — A long-standing associate who helped shield the wounded God of Precepts from other Orthodox Gods, though he declined to intervene directly in the war against Naimus. 480 804
- Storm God — Detected that the God of Precepts’ stated goal concealed a deeper scheme and attacked, exposing its Goddess of Precepts form. 912 913
- God of Bestowal — Temporarily agreed to let the God of Precepts retain Divinity in exchange for Deflection Force, unaware that Precepts had withheld information about the larger iterative competition. 894
Story Role / Major Arcs
Abyss Invasion and Slumber
The God of Precepts’ failed invasion of the Abyss inflicted injuries severe enough to force a prolonged slumber. This absence weakened the Church of Precepts and created the opening through which Naimus stole part of its Divine Rank. 1 480
Divine War with Naimus
Upon awakening, the god mobilized the Church and its divine-war formation against Naimus. It underestimated the scale of Naimus’s allies, Golden Breeds, faith resources, and ability to turn the shared origin of their powers into a one-sided restraint. 802 805 823
Sacred Wish and First Defeat
The God of Precepts attempted to use the Holy Son’s Sacred Wish to secure victory through historical possibilities. The plan failed; Naimus, the Moon God, and the Will of the Abyss surrounded it, and its attempt to transfer divine essence out of the world possibility was thwarted by the Sun God. 826 833 834
Return as the Goddess of Precepts
In later world possibilities, the deity resumed direct action under its renewed Goddess of Precepts identity. It pursued Naimus not merely to reclaim Divinity, but to uncover the key to the world’s changes and update its own long-term salvation plans. 912 913 900
Grid-Based World Hunting
The God of Precepts prepared the Grid as a mechanism for linking world possibilities and plundering their origin. Naimus and the Sun God uncovered this arrangement, leading to another confrontation in the Astral Realm. 899 902
