Background / History

The Uchiha were one of the two dominant shinobi clans of the Warring States Period, alongside the Senju. The two clans repeatedly fought as opposing mercenary forces until their leaders, Uchiha Madara and Hashirama Senju, united to end the era and establish Konohagakure under the “one country, one village” system. 31

Although Madara later urged the clan to leave Konoha with him, the Uchiha chose to remain, having accepted village life and peace. 31 After Hashirama's death, however, Tobirama Senju became Second Hokage and pursued policies that gradually excluded the Uchiha from Konoha's core authority. Their compound was moved to the village outskirts, and they were assigned control of the Konoha Military Police Force. 31

Mirai describes the Police Force appointment as a political trap rather than genuine trust: public-security work forced Uchiha shinobi to handle everyday disputes, making them targets of civilian resentment while leaving the Hokage's Anbu responsible for actual village defense. 31 Under Hiruzen Sarutobi and Danzō Shimura, the clan's marginalization allegedly deepened; the Uchiha were excluded from central power and deployed to the Mist front during the Third Great Ninja War despite Fire Style and Sharingan being poorly suited to Mist Village tactics. 133

Clan meetings are held at Naka Shrine. Under Tajima's rules, participants displayed their Sharingan so the strength of each speaker could be judged; Fugaku had abolished this practice, but it resumed after his imprisonment. 145
