Maeve entered Godolkin as an unremarkable supe with several abilities and relied on her durable body to earn a place in the school's rankings. Through decades of training, she became one of the world's premier physical combatants, capable of drawing blood from Homelander with a punch when sufficiently enraged 34 60.

Before the Flight 37 disaster, Maeve had already recognized Homelander's cruelty and Vought's corruption, but chose numb inaction rather than open resistance. During the hijacking, she tried to convince Homelander to save the passengers; he refused, and she was dragged away as all 137 people aboard died. Witnessing Starlight continue to resist Vought afterward began Maeve's moral awakening 51.
