Terumi Mei serves Kirigakure as an elite Anbu jōnin. During Uchiha Chen's incursion into the Land of Water, she attempts to stop him and is taken into his Kamui Dimension. Believing he intends to harm Kirigakure and extract Isobu from Karatachi Yagura, she attacks with Lava Release and Boil Release, but Chen overwhelms and restrains her. She ultimately agrees to guide him in exchange for her freedom. 94 95

While traveling with Chen, Mei recognizes the scope of his space-time ninjutsu and gradually shifts from treating him as an enemy to trusting him as a protector.
