Background

Itachi was born to Mikoto Uchiha and Uchiha Qingshui, also called Shimizu, though he was publicly raised as Fugaku Uchiha’s son. He learns the truth of his parentage only after Shisui’s death, when Mikoto and Qingshui reveal it to him. 423 424

As a child, Itachi is exposed to violence within his household and develops a One-Tomoe Sharingan while distressed by Mikoto’s suffering. During the Nine-Tails disaster, he saves Mikoto and Sasuke from a collapsing wall through exceptional chakra control and physical ability. 273 331

Fugaku later brings him to a battlefield strewn with corpses, forcing him to confront the human cost of shinobi conflict. The experience leaves Itachi furious at a world driven by competing interests and motivates his wish to change both the clan and the ninja world. 361 362

Personality

Itachi is deeply affected by the cruelty of warfare, clan prejudice, and the conflict between Konoha and the Uchiha. He consistently argues that a coup would only cause further bloodshed, even while recognizing that the village has treated his clan unjustly. 388 421

His talent and isolation foster a severe, elitist streak. He considers most clansmen incapable of understanding his perspective and believes that only he can save the Uchiha from its self-destructive course. 403

Despite his coldness toward others, Sasuke remains his strongest emotional bond. He is protective and affectionate toward his younger brother, and much of his later conduct is shaped by his desire to keep Sasuke alive. 411 421 424

Danzō poisons Shisui and steals one of his eyes. Mortally wounded, Shisui entrusts his remaining Mangekyō to Itachi and dies in the Naka River, awakening Itachi’s Mangekyō Sharingan. 422

Failed Clan Extermination

After discovering Qingshui is his biological father, Itachi accepts Danzō’s extermination plan and recruits Obito’s aid, demanding that Sasuke and Konoha be spared.
