Background / History

Su Zheng is a transmigrator who inherited the memories and body of Gray Rain Masashi. Masashi's mother was expelled from the Gray Rain Clan for marrying a commoner; both parents died shortly afterward in war. Their treatment left Su Zheng hostile toward the clan and its emphasis on bloodline and status. He was raised by his maternal uncle, Hanzo of the Salamander. 1

He excelled at the Ninja Academy, skipped grades, and graduated at ten. After his guiding Jonin, Maki Jiro, was deployed to the battlefield, Su Zheng's demonstrated ability led Maki to appoint him captain of a three-person Genin squad alongside Maki Gengetsu and Xiangtai Hongshan. 1

During a supply-transport mission, Su Zheng's team was ambushed near Yūbu Town. He defeated multiple Sand-affiliated Chunin and coordinated Water, Earth, and Lightning Style techniques to seriously wound the Jonin Zhencun. The operation established his reputation as a prodigy despite his Genin rank. 2 4

After encountering the war-orphaned Konan and Haruna, Su Zheng brought them into his home. Their rescue produced Save Points through his system, giving him a practical reason to connect his pursuit of strength with protecting people. 5 9

Su Zheng became a Chunin after defeating Kawa-uchi and Yamashita in his promotion assessment, then defeated the Jonin Kurokawa in an unofficial follow-up fight. He kept his Sharingan hidden throughout the assessment. 10 11 12

Kaiyu Rui's attempts to manipulate and eliminate Su Zheng ultimately failed. After learning that Rui had arranged the earlier attack and attempted to frame him in order to provoke conflict between Hanzo and Konoha, Su Zheng hunted down and executed Rui's faction. 12 16

With Amegakure's internal threats weakened, Su Zheng shifted toward nation-building. Hanzo appointed him Minister of Development, and Su Zheng began reconstruction surveys, infrastructure projects, factory construction, industrialization, and reforms of the Land of Rain's registration system. 26 28 29

Su Zheng is initially depicted as a young, slight boy; at age eleven, he stands approximately 1.5 meters tall. By the time he meets Karenka, he is stated to be sixteen and 1.7 meters tall. 28 33

Su Zheng is calculated, patient, and highly self-directed. Even when Kaiyu Rui attempted to pressure him into rejoining the Gray Rain Clan, he concealed his hostility and chose to wait until he had evidence and sufficient power to respond. 4 12

His long-term objective is not merely personal strength. He repeatedly states that he wants to end wars, free ordinary people from exploitation by Daimyo and powerful clans, abolish the ninja-village system, and construct a new social order. 7 51 73
