Background / History

Minato trained under Jiraiya and became one of Konoha’s foremost young shinobi. By the mission to the Land of Grass, he had learned the Second Hokage’s Flying Thunder God Technique and Sage Mode, though he concealed those abilities to avoid exposing his full capabilities during the developing conflict. 66

While confronting the Four-Tails jinchūriki Rōshi, Minato relied on sealing barriers rather than reveal his more secret techniques. The encounter convinced him that conventional ninjutsu could not reliably defeat jinchūriki defenses. 66 68

Together with Jiraiya, he developed an instant-cast technique to address that weakness. Minato created the Rasengan, refined it with Wind Release, and tested it against both Jiraiya’s Sage Mode and Kushina’s partial Tailed Beast Transformation. 68
