Background / History

Hsi Wu was sealed in Demon Hell for an immense span of time. The sealing eroded both his power and memories, leaving him with little more than his body when he found a spatial rift leading outside. He immediately flew through it, becoming the first known Demon to escape into the Douluo World. 3 9 71

Before his sealing, Hsi Wu had spent time living among humans in human form without exposing his true nature. Among the Eight Demons, he is described as the second most intelligent, surpassed only by Shendu. 5

After emerging above Spirit Hall, he antagonized Ghost Douluo and Chrysanthemum Douluo as a “hunting game.” Their Polar Static Domain could immobilize him, but only temporarily; he escaped after breaking free. 4 5 33

Hsi Wu later infiltrated Spirit Hall under the identity of Simu. Hu Liena discovered his identity when she witnessed Simu transform into the giant Sky Demon and depart the Pope Palace. 26 32 Bibi Dong subsequently captured him with Ghost Douluo and Chrysanthemum Douluo, then delivered him to Shendu's chamber before transferring him to Qian Daoliu. 33 34

When Qian Daoliu left Spirit Hall, Hsi Wu escaped with Shendu's assistance. He entered the Star Dou Great Forest, destroyed a valley and its inhabitants, and selected the ruined site for his own palace, Sky City. 35 41

Appearance

Hsi Wu can assume a human identity as Simu, but his demonic true form is a large winged creature associated with the sky. 32 168

  • Bat-like wings capable of extreme aerial speed and sonic-boom dives. 5 9
  • Sharp claws used in direct combat. 5 65
  • Can manifest as a giant demon when abandoning his human disguise. 32
  • His wings and body can regenerate even after being shredded or pierced. 69 70

Personality

Hsi Wu is arrogant, theatrical, and intensely prideful. He regularly calls humans “ants,” treats opponents as beneath his notice, and reacts furiously to humiliation or challenges to his status. 9 65 69

He is also playful and manipulative. He threatened to reveal Shendu's location to Zhong Su simply to provoke a reaction, and he later turned the submission of human rulers into an arena game for his own entertainment. 32 116 117

Despite his bluster, Hsi Wu can be cautious when confronting unknown danger. He waited for Qian Daoliu to leave Spirit Hall before escaping and retreated from the Star Dou Great Forest when he recognized that its ferocious beasts were beyond his current strength. 35 65

Abilities & Skills

Celestial Phenomena Manipulation

As the Sky Demon, Hsi Wu commands the Demonic Qi of the Sky and celestial phenomena recognized by a world's heavenly laws. He states that these phenomena can include wind, fire, thunder, lightning, daylight, starlight, and the vast sky itself. 71

  • Dispersed Zhong Su and Xiao Feng's combined wind-and-lightning attack by ordering the sky to clear. 63
  • Can suppress surrounding space with invisible sky-derived pressure. 65
  • Unleashed a red heavenly tribulation-like attack against Di Tian, severely injuring him despite Di Tian blocking it. 71 72
  • His command over lightning is limited by Zhong Su's authority as the Thunder Demon; direct control becomes difficult when their powers conflict. 135

Sky Origin Power

Hsi Wu later masters an origin power connected to the sky, an achievement Zhou Lan considers normally attainable only at god level. 134

  • Stops and slows Zhong Su's world-destroying lightning through direct control of the sky. 134
  • Gives him a major advantage against elemental attacks occurring within his domain of control. 134
  • Does not guarantee victory against opponents who have mastered higher or more specialized laws, as Zhong Su later overwhelms him with the laws of lightning. 168

Flight and Aerial Mobility

Hsi Wu is among the fastest of the Eight Demons and is especially dangerous in open air. 5 65 193

  • Produces sonic booms while diving or accelerating. 5 9
  • Easily evaded Xiong Jun, whose ground-based body could not match his flight speed. 65
  • Reached Moon City first when the Eight Demons gathered, despite beginning from elsewhere. 193

Demonic Immortality and Regeneration

Demons cannot die permanently unless sealed. Di Tian crushed Hsi Wu's head, causing blood rain to fall across the continent, but Hsi Wu later revived. 66 68

  • Can regenerate severe bodily damage, including shredded wings and large wounds. 69 70
  • Premature revival leaves him weakened and vulnerable. 68
  • Zhong Su exploited this weakness by forcibly interrupting Hsi Wu's revival and using him as a shield against Di Tian. 68 69

Mental Resistance

Hsi Wu is unaffected by mental-type spirit skills. 26

  • Hu Liena's charm had no effect on him. 26
  • This makes him a direct counter to charm- and mental-control-focused Spirit Masters. 26

Close-Quarters Combat

Though primarily an aerial and celestial combatant, Hsi Wu can fight physically with claws and demonic strength. 5 65

  • Matched Xiong Jun's claws head-on, surprising the ferocious beasts of the Star Dou Great Forest. 65
  • His physical resilience is substantial, but Di Tian and Zhong Su have repeatedly inflicted crippling damage on him. 66 69 168

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Sky City — His palace and power base, built in a valley of the Star Dou Great Forest after he destroyed its previous ecosystem. 41
  • Soul Tool Legion — A human army equipped with advanced Soul Tools under Hsi Wu's command; its firepower includes powerful cannons. 129 135
  • Soul Tool arsenal — Its largest attack sank part of the continent and caused seawater to flood inland, though the legion itself was scattered by the aftermath. 136

Relationships

  • Shendu — Fellow Eight Demon whom Hsi Wu calls “brother,” though he deeply distrusts Shendu and once threatened to expose him to Zhong Su. Shendu nevertheless arranged his escape from Spirit Hall. 4 32 34 35
  • Zhong Su — Fellow Demon and principal rival. Their relationship is openly hostile; Zhong Su has attacked, humiliated, prematurely revived, and used Hsi Wu as a shield, while Hsi Wu repeatedly boasts of being stronger. Zhong Su ultimately defeats him after mastering the laws of lightning. 63 69 134 168
  • Xiao Feng — Fellow Demon whose wind powers Hsi Wu has negated alongside Zhong Su's lightning. Xiao Feng later joins Zhong Su in seeking revenge after Hsi Wu's death. 63 68
  • Zhou Lan — Fellow Demon whose strength Hsi Wu nearly reaches after recovering his celestial power. Zhou Lan dislikes Hsi Wu's arrogance, once throwing him from a cliff during the tournament. 76 134
  • Bibi Dong — Captured Hsi Wu after coordinating with Ghost Douluo and Chrysanthemum Douluo; she delivered him to Shendu and Qian Daoliu. 33 34
  • Di Tian — Enemy and Beast God of the Star Dou Great Forest. Di Tian captured and killed Hsi Wu, while Hsi Wu later reclaimed celestial power and gravely injured him with a heavenly attack. 65 66 71 72
  • Po Kong — Fellow Demon who habitually made Hsi Wu scratch her back during their time in Demon Hell. He later aided her after Daolon Wong's forces injured her. 103 232

Story Role / Major Arcs

Star Dou Great Forest Conflict

After establishing Sky City, Hsi Wu claimed the Star Dou Great Forest as his territory. His challenge to Di Tian's court led to a clash with Xiong Jun, his capture by Di Tian, and his first apparent death. 41 65 66

Hsi Wu revived when Zhong Su forcibly pulled him from the sky, but the premature revival left him weak enough to be used as a shield against Di Tian's Dragon God's Claw. He later regenerated, entered the sealed cavern beneath the forest, reclaimed celestial power connected to the “little dragon,” and wounded Di Tian with Heavenly Wrath. 68 70 71 72

Demon Conferences and the Sun Moon Continent

Hsi Wu attended the early gatherings of the released Demons and frequently clashed with Zhong Su over status and strength. His recovered power made him a serious contender even against Zhou Lan. 76 78

After reaching the Sun Moon Continent, he became fascinated by its Soul Tool technology. He subjugated local rulers and founded the World Arena Tournament as a game for himself and the other Demons. 88 89 116 117

World Arena Tournament

Hsi Wu forced surrendered kings and their subjects to fight for his amusement, threatening those who refused. 117 He expanded the tournament by challenging the followers and forces of other Demons, confident that his Soul Tool Legion would defeat them. 129 132 134

The legion's overwhelming bombardment caused continental collapse and widespread flooding, killing many people and scattering much of Hsi Wu's own force. 135 136

Rivalry with Zhong Su

Hsi Wu initially gained the upper hand over Zhong Su through Sky Origin power, stopping Zhong Su's lightning and humiliating him before the arena audience. 133 134

Zhong Su later returned after mastering the laws of lightning, challenged Hsi Wu at his palace, and defeated him in their renewed battle for dominance. 167 168 By the time of Ba Sha's release, Hsi Wu's injuries had fully recovered, though his hostility toward Zhong Su remained. 193

Later Demon Affairs

Hsi Wu participated with the other Demons in attacking inheritance battlefields to investigate the God Realm's divine-position summoning process. 146 He also joined five other great Demons in confronting Asura's avatar before it could reach the Divine Capital. 172

When Daolon Wong defeated Po Kong and Di Kui, Hsi Wu's recovered ancient memories allowed him to identify Daolon Wong as Shendu's former subordinate. This recognition helped convince the Demons to confront Shendu over the apparent betrayal. 232 234
