Background / History

Nobu Yoshioka is an extraordinarily long-lived leader of The Hand in Japan. He claims to have lived since the Japanese Warring States period and to have personally known Takeda Shingen and Takeda Katsuyori. His long life has made him patient, contemptuous of ordinary authority, and willing to wait decades for enemies to die before reclaiming what he wants. 108 109

According to Nobu, the Yashida family was originally an insignificant ninja clan until he taught its ancestors advanced ninjutsu and enabled their rise during Japan's turbulent past. The family allegedly joined The Hand and swore to act as Nobu's representatives “in the light,” while Mochizuki Plain became The Hand's principal ninja-training base for four centuries. 109

Ichiro Yashida later broke this arrangement by using American military influence to purge Nobu's loyalists, seize Mochizuki Plain, and take control of its ninja apprentices. Nobu's campaign against the Yashida family—including the financial turmoil that pushed the Yashida Group toward collapse—was intended to reclaim the plain and collect “interest” on this betrayal. 108 109

Nobu convenes with Alexandra, Bakuto, and Sowande over concerns that Ichiro Yashida's activities at Mochizuki Plain may threaten The Beast's seal. Though confident that Ichiro will soon die, he acknowledges the danger posed by Adamantium shipments and the possibility that Ichiro has discovered the Beast's secret. 111

Confrontation with Xiang Qian

Nobu personally visits Wude Group to force Xiang Qian to end his investment in the Yashida Group. Xiang Qian deduces that Nobu's interest lies in Mochizuki Plain itself, provoking Nobu into attacking. 112 113 114

Nobu attempts a high-speed surprise assault, but Xiang Qian blocks him, breaks through the conference table with a kick, dislocates all four of Nobu's limbs, and injures him with Kunlun Qi. Xiang Qian then reveals that the Spear Bureau is pursuing Nobu for crimes dating back sixty years. 114

Nobu's supporting ninjas are defeated by Xiang Qian's bodyguard team, while Nobu is subjected to interrogation regarding The Hand's resurrection method. 115

Imprisonment and The Hand's Decline in Japan

Following the wider conflict around The Beast, Nobu remains captured. Xiang Qian concludes that Nobu, even if alive, will spend the rest of his life in prison, while The Hand's Japanese influence is severely damaged. 139
