Background / History
The well is a red-and-blue lake whose two halves embody extreme cold and extreme heat. Its opposing energies remain in a stable balance rather than consuming one another, while mist rises where the two sides meet. Exotic flowers and herbs grow around its shores despite the hostile environment. 34
Dugu Bo discovered the valley and established a Poison Array around it, treating it as his territory. Although the environment helped suppress the toxin backlash from his Jade Phosphor Serpent Emperor martial soul and supported his poison cultivation, he did not understand the value of the herbs or the well's deeper origin. 34 38 52
Lu Chen led Bibi Dong, Yue Guan, and Gui Mei to the valley under the pretense of following his martial soul's resonance. After Dugu Bo was confronted and agreed to join Spirit Hall, Yue Guan began identifying and harvesting the well's medicinal resources with care to preserve their future growth. 33 36 38
At the lakebed lie the corpses of the Fire Dragon King and Ice Dragon King. Their lingering power originally produced the well's extreme elemental environment. 41 42 After Leugocyte devoured the Dragon Kings' divine consciousnesses and god-level soul bones, it used remaining fire and ice power to create new circulating energy cycles around the corpses, preventing the well from losing its foundation. 45 46
Environment
- The lake is divided into an ice-blue half that emits bone-piercing cold and a fiery-red half that radiates extreme heat. 34
- Its surface environment supports a large variety of rare herbs, including immortal herbs capable of improving a soul master's foundation, physique, spiritual power, or martial soul. 35 38
- The spring water becomes increasingly dangerous with depth; even Titled Douluo require Soul Power protection to descend safely. 45 47
- The central boundary, where ice and fire restrain each other, can balance the two extremes under the correct conditions. 40
- A valley of Jade Phosphorus Seven Absolute Flowers and Dugu Bo's Poison Array conceals the location from ordinary intruders. 33 34
Resources
Immortal Herbs
The well nurtures numerous exceptional herbs. Yue Guan describes them as capable of “seizing the fortune of heaven and earth,” with benefits that include strengthening foundations and compensating for deficiencies. 35
- Octagonal Mysterious Ice Grass — An extremely cold poisonous herb. Lu Chen consumed it together with the Infernal Delicate Apricot for ice-and-fire body tempering. 39 40
- Infernal Delicate Apricot — An extremely hot poisonous herb that counterbalances the Octagonal Mysterious Ice Grass when taken through the proper method. 39 40
- Singular Velvet Sky Chrysanthemum — Retained by Lu Chen. 41
- Full Moon Wearing Autumn Dew — Taken by Bibi Dong. 41
- Hell God Exquisite — Harvested for Gui Mei. 38
- Earth Dragon Golden Melon — Given by Dugu Bo to Dugu Yan; it evolved her Jade Phosphor Snake martial soul into the Jade Phosphor Flood Dragon. 38 50
Yue Guan harvests the herbs while preserving seeds, roots, or vitality wherever possible, recognizing that the well's long-term worth lies in its ability to continue producing such resources. 38
Dragon King Remains
At the bottom of the well rest the colossal remains of the Fire Dragon King and Ice Dragon King.
- Their bodies originally supplied the fire and ice energies that formed the well. 41 42
- Their lingering divine consciousnesses awakened and attacked Lu Chen after he descended into the lakebed. 42 43
- Leugocyte devoured both divine consciousnesses and their god-level soul bones. 44 45
- The soul bones fused into Leugocyte's wings rather than directly integrating with Lu Chen's body: crimson patterns manifested on its left wing and icy-blue radiance on its right. 46 47
- Leugocyte restored the corpses' function as the well's energy source by establishing self-sustaining elemental cycles between them. 46
Effects on Visitors
- Ice-and-fire body tempering — By consuming the Octagonal Mysterious Ice Grass and Infernal Delicate Apricot before entering the spring's central boundary, Lu Chen strengthened his bones, meridians, flesh, and blood while gaining much greater resistance to extreme cold and heat. 40 41
- Cultivation support — The valley's environment can suppress Dugu Bo's accumulated toxins and assist his poison cultivation, though it cannot permanently cure his backlash by itself. 38 52
- Dragon King inheritance — Lu Chen's descent led to the absorption of residual Dragon King power and memories, granting him major improvements in physique, spiritual power, perception, and access to cultivation knowledge. 46 47 52
- Nine-Colored Dragon Mark — During Lu Chen's three-day absorption beneath the lake, a nine-colored dragon-shaped mark formed on his forehead. Bibi Dong considers it similar to a divine trial mark. 47 49
Story Role / Major Arcs
