Background / History

Tang San travels from Holy Soul Village to Notting Academy with Old Jack. At the academy gate, Yu Xiaogang intervenes when gatekeepers insult them, then recognizes Tang San's rare innate full spirit power and twin martial souls from his Spirit Hall certificate. 7

Though Old Jack distrusts the disgraced and disheveled Yu Xiaogang, Tang San judges that Yu Xiaogang is not a bad person because he defended them. Once Yu Xiaogang explains his deduction regarding Tang San's hidden second martial soul and promises to develop Blue Silver Grass to its limit, Tang San formally accepts him as his teacher. 8

In the Soul Hunting Forest, Tang San follows Yu Xiaogang's recommendation to hunt a Lone Bamboo for his first ring. Neither realizes that the mutated bamboo has only ninety-nine years of cultivation, leaving Tang San with a pseudo-century spirit ring rather than a genuine hundred-year ring. 13 15
